Old Express and Star building to be demolished

It's never been the same down that end sinceAllied Carpets closed

Can I just say those buildings had been empty a long long time, when I moved here the rock cafe was empty, and there was what I assume a club/bar upstairs which was empty. The express and star moved. I would much rather there be something creating jobs and revenue there. I went into the old cinema not too long ago, my feet made the sticking noise all the way to my seat, it was cold and I checked my seat for anything unsavoury. Since then I have been to cineworld in Telford twice, for the cinema and dinner. I would much rather just stay in Stafford. The cinema will be a great asset to what's been built around it and the town. How many people in cannock, Rugeley or stone travel for a cinema? I can tell you they most probably wouldn't consider Stafford to use the cinema, so a bonus if it pulls those people in and keeps Stafford people in Stafford.

The rear of e&s was the original coal wharf and loading bay, complete with its own canal arm off the canalised river. Prior to that there was a tramway to bring coal from Radford bank to the town

Well, I stopped and had a good look at the building today as I was Christmas Shopping.

It isn't exactly pretty or characterful and really won't be missed IMO.

Bring on the new facilities!
