What can I do with hundreds of books?

A relative recently passed away and a large amount of her possessions were books, there are hundreds of them probably even thousands, too many to take to a charity shop, they're too good to chuck but we don't know where to start.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

You could always spread them out over charity shops. If there's sets of authors these would probably go well on eBay. Do you know if there's any special ones? Some might be worth something, others will be worth pennies.

I saw an advert for this company last week - Ziffit. Get money for books, CDs, DVDs and games, and if you download their app you can scan the barcode on each book to see what price you'd get.

I've never used them, but it looks interesting,

Great idea, i did the same with CDs and DVDs a few years back and whilst you don't get much for them, you're safe in the knowledge someone else has to deal with them in the mean time.

My advice would be never expect anything to be worth lots, as you'll never get rid of anything.

Bob, how about, pick out a book for us here, take a pic and see if anyone one of us knows a thing about it, or the book?

If she has Kenneths Graham's Poldark I'd buy it? Genuinely!! or if anyone else has an old copy?

Other than that I don't advise the carboot, books aren't big sellers on there. I'd spread them out in the charity book banks a tthe tip. Easy and quick :)

Nowadys most charity shops seem to pulp anything that isn't a "best seller" or a coffee table book. I'd suggest talking to a book seller - there is a new place opened up at Wolsey Bridge - the chap there seem to know his business.

If only the great Bob Picken was still amongst us - he would have sorted you out....

:D nah, that's fine. I'm just looking for an original type Hardback copy of the first few Poldark novels, the Bodley Head ones ideally, but just not the paberbacks with TV tie in!!!

I have the DVD's to swoon over Aidan Turners body :)

@Bob If these are still going, there was a house on the A51 near Ed Weetman's here that had a sign outside saying books wanted / needed. That was about two weeks ago but it might still be worth a punt if they're still going spare.
