There has been a planning application submitted to demolish the Rickerscote Arms and build 11 houses on the site 17/26277/FUL

For a pub that has been closed for over 4 years there has been an application to convert part of the Hand & Cleaver, Ranton, into 2 dwellings. 17/26272/FUL. There was an earlier application to turn it into 3 dwellings.

It started to go downhill (see what I did there) when they banned fondues, chunky knit jumpers and got rid of the ski lift to the Highfields club.

Only went in there once with my mate Steve who was at English Electric.
At the time The Lodge was frequented by the local skinheads so we, being (a) young (b) stupid and (c) up for it. Decided as bikers we fancied a pint or two in there. So we rocked up, Steve on his AJS, me on me Norton. Black leather jackets and jeans. It was a bit like the moors pub scene from American Werewolf in London for about 20 seconds or so. We stayed for about an hour getting sideways glances from the locals.
