Bins!

I wonder how many of the notices just went straight into the blue bins - unread?

I considered fitting a letterbox into the lid of my blue bin, but the amount of junk mail has really fallen off in the last couple of years.

The calendar 'naturally' opens at the side for next year, so the dates appear not to match the days - this caused confusion amongst almost everybody that has spoken to me about it.

The 180 litre is meant to be an opt-in thing so it might be worth giving the Recycling and Waste team a nag.
I rang the council minutes after my bin disappeared. They said "NO" to my request for a replacement bin the same size as the nicked one. "It's our policy now to only replace with the smaller ones".. They insisted that it hadn't ended up inside the bin lorry, but I'm not entirely convinced that's true as it disappeared within the couple of minutes it took to put my shoes on and get out to bring it back in, once the lorry had started moving off.
Anyone nicking it must have been quick off their marks.....think they are slinging the odd one in the lorry each time to eventually get everyone using the titchy bins.

I struggle to half fill my green bin nowadays. Maybe I just recycle more than I actually should.

Just gave them a call again. ..reply........"The smaller 180 litre bins are now the ones provided as 'Standard'. If you want one of the original 240 litre ones, you will have to pay the £40 one off charge "
I did think it was chargeable but as it didn't say on that link, I didn't mention it.

I rarely have much in my green bin, but I would begrudge losing it to an irrational extent.

It is my original bin, right from the very start - almost an heirloom now.

My nicked one was my original bin from the very start as well. This titchy one is a pain when missing the collection when going on holiday for a few days and having to fit nearly 4 weeks worth of rubbish in.Not paying £40 for a new normal sized replacement though, when it could get swiped again. (They all have to be left at the top of a long shared driveway , with the view of it obscured by the neighbours massive conifers )

In the meantime.....loads of stinky un-emptied green bins still sitting at the end of the driveway put up mistakenly for yesterdays collection , hoping they aren't going to still be there until a week tomorrow ..

Have you ever thought of putting your house number on the bin? You can buy self-adhesive numbers from places like B&Q.
All my bins have my house number and street in BIG in black marker pen, on the sides , inside, on the caddy. Still got nicked..... If I ever spot it I will claim it back...my eyes are peeled both on bin days and on my walks out. One day someone may just slip up and forget to keep it hidden.

(Got my number on to make sure no-one takes mine by mistake , as mine are the only ones by us that are cleaned out each week. )

Ah well, it was just a thought. One you had already had though.

I think the original thoughts on wheelie bins was that it didn't matter if you got 'yours' back every week as they are the same. Thing is, some bins are never cleaned and get really minging so who would want a minging bin?

One day, pay-by-weight will be introduced for non-recyclable waste - identifying and controlling access to your bin will be become crucial then...

My green bin has not been cleaned this century and it does not ming.

My neighbours bins still stink once they have been emptied as stuff is still stuck to the bottoms and sides. They sling loose stuff in which includes dog shit, nappies food etc. etc. No way do I want to end up with theirs!
I bag my green rubbish up, but still clean it out after most collections armed with a bowl of soapy water and yard brush . Don't bother with my brown bin, but the blue one also gets a swill out to get rid of the booze that has dripped out of the cans.

The day it becomes pay-by-weight I can see lots going into other peoples bins, especially those like ours that have to be left out for collection at the top of a long shared driveway. Already find lots added to mine when I put it out really late at night and go to add oddments to it in the morning.

It seems they haven’t changed our road’s days, just swapped the weeks to confuse everyone

Lots of people not read the leaflet & left bins out on the old collection day & kept them out - I feel quite sorry for which ever poor person who is answering the phones at the council to all the ranty calls they are going to be getting !

Round our way, half have left out the green bin when it's brown and blue day today, I did feel smug getting our empty bins back in this morning! :D

We’ve come out of this on top - our road is now later in the day so I don’t get woken up at 8am by the bin lorry every week.

It’s 4.37pm on our new collection day and our green bin still hasn’t been emptied yet. I would be very surprised if it does get emptied today.
