Aircraft noise

I've noticed quite a few military transport types flying fairly low recently. Used to happen fairly often a few years ago but had gone quiet until this year. Probably making use of the extended daylight hours for training. There's also more civilian stuff probably due to summer displays/shows etc.

I haven't noticed any increased noise from above. Planes these days are almost silent at ground level. It's not like the old days when you would generally hear a plane long before you could see it. Road traffic noise generally swamps aircraft noise, I find.

Atmospheric conditions can have quite an effect on the transmission, the lack of cloud cover and low humidity will have a lower damping effect, though that is generally more noticeable in winter.

In terms of military stuff, there is always more of that in the better weather, but again, much less than there was forty years ago.

It does seem noisey, yesterday over the house, we saw a small plane at low level, very noisy & its front wings seemed to point forwards.

If so man the anti-craft guns, they say in the first world war it wasn't easy to shoot down Blimps.
On this side of the trenches, it was only the occupants of the observation balloons that were allowed to have parachutes.

I have not noticed a general increase in air traffic. The tow plane at Seighford has been a bit busier launching gliders and last week two gyrocopters flew over which was a rare sight. This morning it sounded like some military jets flew over. The only noisy aircraft I notice regularly is at about 10 at night coming from the north, I assume it's a jumbo from Manchester ?

Seighford is a regular as are the Apache

It's the early ish morning and evening commercial jets that appear to have a new course

There was a fair bit of activity yesterday in connection with the Cosford at 80 celebrations.
