Hello,
I am very new on here and just getting used to the thought that I may be spending most of my time in Staffs over next 12 months.
I am not very experienced chatter either, so please forgive me if I post something in the wrong place.
I got job offer in Four Ashes and looking for hints about the area including chance of renting somewhere inexpensive and as much private as it gets that is bicycle commutable. I am single grown up professional, just don't drive and currently I am looking at 2 hours one way commute so would appreciate any suggestions from local people.
Many thanks!

Four Ashes might be an ambitious cycle from Stafford - a good distance and an 'exciting' road.

Brewood, Coven, etc, might be viable.

It's not very hilly, what would you consider the maximum viable distance?

Anyone any idea what Shareshill, Saredon, Featherstone or Calf Heath are like? Places like that would avoid having to cross the 449

Thank you for advice.. really appreciated! Thing is that I am looking to minimise distance and on- road cycling bits as dark mornings and evenings will creep in soon and I don't like darkness cycling- not a guru at that - just like it. At the moment I am looking at cycling from Wolverhampton where can get on the train ..

do you know the route from Wolverhampton by any chance? I have seen bits of route 81 there but how is the rest?

The A449 looks to have wide paths on both sides here - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.6501951,-2.129004,3a,75y,4.53h,93.64t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s5iWS4BC2-ZjO5RXJe8I8rQ!2e0!6s//geo3.ggpht.com/cbk?panoid=5iWS4BC2-ZjO5RXJe8I8rQ&output=thumbnail&cb_client=maps_sv.tactile.gps&thumb=2&w=203&h=100&yaw=285.24686&pitch=0&thumbfov=100!7i13312!8i6656 - it might be worth trying Street View along the route and seeing if it's viable to do it 'off-road'.

The motor traffic along there would not be driven by cyclist-friendly people, in the main.

They're not that keen on other motorists....

Hi everyone, lovely to meet you as it were. I have lurked for just a little while before signing up. I hope I'm posting in the correct way! I have lived in Stafford for the whole of my 50 years, Hopton, Hixon and now settled in Yarlet. I'm looking forward to contributing to the forum and hopefully making some friends along the way.
