Is the Meadowcroft Park area nice? Advice on where to buy!

Hi all, my husband and I are thinking of moving to Stafford so we can commute to Birmingham for work. Saw a house in the Meadowcroft Park area near the football club that we really liked, but we are not sure about whether the area is nice. Any advice or thoughts on the area? Will it be noisy/rowdy near the football club? Have never lived near any sport facilities before (and we are not sporty people).

Our budget is about 180k, 200k max. We have no kids yet. We prefer to be in walking distance to some shops (doesn't have to be huge ones) and walking distance to parks/green spaces/canals(basically nice walking routes, if parks the bigger the better). We have a car so don't have to rely on the train. Don't mind rural locations -- but houses don't come up that often in the villages.

If anyone can let us know of any areas to avoid, or any areas to recommended, that would be superb! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi @ellyria, welcome to the forum :)

meadowcroft park isn't by the football grounds, i don't think.. the football club is near the north of the town, but meadowcroft park is more south - in what many people might regard as the "nicer" end of town ;)

i don't live in meadowcroft but i have known loads of people who have over the years, and it's a nice enough estate.. you are walking distance to a big retail park, and a corner shop..

if you want super convenient walking distance to a nice park and play area, then as @iamlegend says you should be looking at Wildwood, Baswich, and Walton - but house prices can be a little bit more, as a result.. not loads more, though - you'd defo get a nice 3 bed within your budget, possibly a 4 bed if the wind is right!

Meadowcroft park is a nice area, it's far enough away from the football club for it not to be a problem.
There is a retail park just around the corner, a corner shop over the road and town is around a 10 minute drive away.
There is a park and canal walks around 10 mins walk away.

Thanks guys for the replies! I should have clarified: the house we saw is not actually on the Meadowcroft Park estate I think, it's directly below the football club (on silkmore crescent). I don't know if that area has a separate name or is included in the estate. Does it make much of a difference?

It's called Brocton Football Club by looking at google maps? Looks like a very small football field though.

I think they might mean the football ground just off Silkmore lane - not Stafford Rangers. Not sure who plays there but never heard it's a problem from a noise point of view.

Oh ok. In a good way or a bad way? :S
i personally might consider a house on meadowcroft, but i wouldn't want to live on silkmore crescent.. yes, i know i'm a snob, but it's impossible to have one of these threads without offending someone! :P

Enjoying a drop of red.
It's a perfectly ok place to live, but the houses seem a little cramped with small gardens. If that is an issue for you then Baswich, Weeping Cross, Wildwood, Hillcroft Park and Walton on the Hill are all up that end of town and all very nice places to live.

Oh and another thing. Alstom Power is very close judging on the maps. Is that a factory/power plant or just some office buildings? Any pollution to be worried about? (Sorry, totally newbie to the area)

That's ok -- that's the kind of honest opinion I'm looking for! But can you explain a little why? Is it the demographic? Or the houses themselves? The environment? If you are worried of offending people feel free to send me a PM, that's why I've come here for these kind of advice! :))

I agree, it's perfectly fine , the very small football club isn't a problem but it's quite a cramped estate - houses closes together, small gardens etc
I used to live on The Meadows - this is more spaced out, or Baswich and Wildwood are nice if you need to live this end of town.

Yes I've noticed the garden is very small, but the house interior I thought was ok. I've been looking into Baswich, Walton and Weeping Cross but where is Hillcroft Park? Can't find it on the maps...

I don't mind which part of town actually, although the HMP is a little off putting in the north (sorry if that offends anyone)
