Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

Looks like works about to start on the old job centre, a big fence is being put up round the building.

Either that, or it's to deter break-ins.

Needs to go. Doesn’t matter how much they do it up, it’ll always be known as the job centre and probably get vandalised constantly because of it

Knock it down, start again. Buy the plot next to it and make use of that maybe.

As long as the developer doesn't clad it, don't trust anything cladded up these days!!

But I agree , it'll always look rubbish, don't know why they don't level it and start again really... I wouldn't say it's an attractive building worth keeping, and surely it'd be far easier starting from scratch !

Iirc the internals are fairly non structural, so easy to redesign. The parking below is very useful as the site has no other space, and the huge amount of windows means you just have to block those no longer needed. In all practical ways it's pretty much ideal for flats, it's just ugly!

The part of 'Alstrom' that's in Glover Street is also up for sale (backs onto Sainsbury Staff car park) .... Not sure what they could do with that..

Saw some activity at the old Vauxhall garage, weeping cross. The signs have come down. Opening as a garage again?
When we walked past a couple of evenings last week there were a few security vans with dogs there . Wasn't sure if they were usually there each day and we just hadn't seen them before, or if something new was 'happening' ...

There was an incident last week loads of fire engines and police. I think that’s why is all been boarded up and security on site.

Did they have a ladder up at the windows, and some carpet type stuff over the window sill to allow entry... I've seen this happen a few times.

They've not got very far with the boarding ip, I went past today and it still looked the same....

There is one big advantage of keeping the building and changing the use of it - most notably that subject to no restrictions this can be done without any planning permission (strict criteria) which is a big money saver. Plus it can make the build cheaper if its easily convertible.

I hate the look of the job centre building so I hope it is demolished.

Lots of (what looked like) steel cladding around all the buildings on the site. Reminds me of some of the rave warehouses late 90's/early 2000's. Now that's just what that end of town has been crying out for. That should really put Stafford on the map.

But did the (what looked like) some of the rave warehouses look like wankers?

From afar?

Because some of us now know what your particular identifying skill-set looks like.

I went passed the vauxhall garage today and it was being fully secured. Seems an odd time to do it now, its been closed for years.

I'm surprised this site hasn't been bought by a house builder.
