The only possible upside is that it might force their hand to not reopen the schools for a couple more weeks. It will damage children a lot less that way than opening and shutting again.

Just had an argument with the 15yr old about this, she's Yr 11 and due to go back on the 4th.

She wants to go back, I told her it's not that important and it will be good if the return is delayed.

She says I'm not living in the real world, and has stormed off upstairs.

She must be a good kid/ misses her friends!

if this happened when I was at school, I and 90% of my friends would love it to be delayed!

The QE tonight

All these ambulances have patients inside waiting to enter the hospital. The hospital has no room
Bloody scary!
My mum once spent ages in an ambulance outside Stafford hospital waiting for them to make space to admit her. That was scary enough then, and nowhere near as bad as those waiting times look !

I'm going nowhere , not risking slipping on the ice , not driving and risking having an accident in these bad conditions . And living out of my freezer and on my stash of long life milk rather than going out shopping and risk coming in contact with anyone who could possibly pass the virus onto us.

I've not set foot in a shop since April. All of my shopping is delivered to me. When I couldn't get a slot on my usual supermarket I found Iceland stepped up. Almost always have open slots. They aren't perfect but keep us fed when nothing else is available. I now have a milkman too so I rarely run out of milk, it's all in glass so better for the environment too.

It was like that up Stoke approximately 6 weeks ago, it was a 5½hr wait. It's bad enough with a 'normal' person, now imagine that with a patient with mental health issues, they go off the scale with anxiety. It wasn't an easy shift.

and hundreds of adults a day die so that schools can remain open - is that not 'the real world' ?

So Tier 4 it is. But if they don't close the schools it will be utterly pointless.

Well yes tier 3 has done nothing, and tier 4 sure closes some more places but can't see it helping

it's funny boris expects the general public to follow these tiers, and rules only way to do it, is a hard lockdown schools closed for a few months roll out the vaccine, hard lockdown and people then may get that.... maybe.

Alot of people don't even know the rules of the tiers!

I would seriously hope a few months is not required. Certainly January, then review how to get kids back into school safely if appropriate, especially for y11 and 13.
