Thank you x.
I’m sure everyone is feeling a bit down with all this but I try to remind myself I might be staying in for a long period but aren’t I fortunate I’m not in a flat with small children and no garden. I’m also at home with the people I love most so it really could be harder. The cappuccino thing is a battle though! Lol
I'm also on the Clinically Extremely Vulnerable list and have been mostly shielding since March last year; just the odd essential trip (flu jab, dropping off/picking my car up for its MOT). And since September, I've been doing the occasional walk around Doxey Marshes (exercise), but I've decided to suspend such trips now until after I've had the vaccine.

After you've had the vaccine, ask your GP if an antibody test might determine how much of a response the vaccine has produced. It might help determine how safe it is to start getting out and about again.

Regarding your cappuccino, have you considered buying a bean to cup machine; many of them make half decent cappuccinos.

In the meantime, stay safe.

That sounds a good idea. Definitely worth asking. I haven’t really minded shielding, I accept it’s best for the NHS if they don’t have me causing them extra stress. I joke about the cappuccino, I have put a kettle in my room with some coffee and individually wrapped biscuits, I like to pretend I’m waking up on holiday How are you getting on? Are you missing your walk over the marshes? In the first 5 months I could count the number of people I’d seen outside of my home on one hand and that included the Amazon delivery driver, Hermes and the post lady lol!

I will miss the walk over the marshes but, hopefully, it won't be for too long. I hope to get my first vaccine jab in a couple of weeks or so and then two to three weeks after that I'll probably return to the marshes, so around a month from now, all being well. I just thought it was best to pause the walks now I am getting close to V day.

My calendar tells me I am now on day 302 of this shielding; I think I know what house arrest feels like now. That said, I have always believed in playing the cards you are dealt with, so I have tried to embrace lockdown and focus on jobs and hobbies that can be done at home.

I have always been a huge fan of our NHS, even more so since this pandemic struck. But I have also developed a much greater appreciation of all those other people who have kept us going, from the posties and delivery drivers, the refuse collectors and supermarket staff, to the fantastic scientists who have given us every chance of getting through this pandemic.

I'll leave you with this song and, in particular, these lyrics:

May it be the shadow's call,
Will fly away,
May it be your journey on,
To light the day,
When the night is overcome,
You may rise to find the sun

Peggy,
Welcome back.
Is it the cappuccino or the coffee shop you're missing ?
Cappuccino machines don't cost a great deal and could be delivered in a couple of days - but maybe that' wouldn't be much of a substitute just as drinking beer at home would be a very poor substitute for getting out to proper pubs.

Message from the Staffordshire Police -

"Roman Way Hotel Covid-19 Vaccination Centre
Traffic Officers and local police officers from South Staffs N'hood Team have attended the vaccination centre on the A5 this evening, after we had reports of a huge backlog of traffic onto the adjoining roads. Officers managed to divert traffic along one lane, clearing the blockage eventually.

In order to avoid traffic in the area in the future, if you have a vaccination invitation, please ensure you are booked for an allotted timeslot at the centre. Stewards there had to turn people away who didn't make appointments and who didn't stick to their given timeslots, which contributed to the queues of traffic."

Well it is Cannock

Our local NHS Organisations are currently in the process of setting up more COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Centres across the County of Staffordshire and we are really keen to recruit volunteers to help with the following roles:
Marshalls: to direct patients/members of the public from the car parking area into the building and also when inside, direct them to the right station/waiting area.
Patient advocates: to observe members of the public pre and post vaccine in the waiting area(s); to relay any questions they have to clinical staff and inform them when the 15 minutes waiting period for them is complete.
Shifts: The centres are open 8am to 8pm Monday to Sunday. The shifts are Early: 730am to 2:30pm
Late: 1:30pm to 8pm
However, for those marshalling outside we are happy to split the shifts between two colleagues so that they do 4 hours each.
Sites:
TUNSTALL (URGENT) From week of 25th January for 3 to 6 months: Support to the Vaccination Centre at Daniel Platts Business Park, Tunstall, ST6 4JU
STAFFORD: From week of 1st February for 3 to 6 months: Support to the Vaccination Centre at the Kingston Centre, Stafford, ST16 3TW
ALREWAS: From week of 8th February for 3 to 6 months: Support to the Vaccination Centre at Whitemore Lakes, Alrewas, WS13 8QT
An expression of interest can be sent to STP-workforceprojectstream@mpft.nhs.uk - Please state in your e-mail that you are either a member of Girlguiding, Scouting or a SCVYS Member Group. Also please state which role you are interested in (indoor and/or outdoor), which site and what days/times you could be available.
An induction and full welcome pack with all the details of your placement will be provided to each volunteer. Travel expenses will also be paid to volunteers. PPE, ID badges and appropriate equipment will also be provided. Volunteers will also be offered the COVID-19 vaccine.
If anyone has queries before committing, please e mail mish.irvine2@mpft.nhs.uk
The NHS would be incredibly grateful for your help/support as part of Staffordshire's response to COVID-19.

Oh FFS, I’ve just heard our surgery (Great Haywood) is sending everyone to Cannock for the jab. Showground is less than 3 miles away from me!! Father in law (Gnosall surgery) went to the showground & a friend in Penkridge (Penkridge surgery) also went to showground. I hope they get some sense of geography by the time I’m due the jab, or at least I’ll have a choice so I don’t have to drive past the showground on my way to Cannock.
Stay home, stay local.

I guess it depends where the doses are and what area the PCN is.

My OH's nan, who is 91, is only getting her vaccine tomorrow (not round here I may add).
