That's my first COVID jab done and dusted. Was whisked into Westward Ho! Baptist Church on arrival, sat down jabbed and led out. Very smooth and well organised and I was back in the car within minutes. (I got to wondering if that was the first time I'd been in a church since a bloke in a dress chucked water over my head and started calling me names !!! :P )

Westward Ho! is an interesting place. A sort of mini-resort albeit today really cold. I could see what looked like snow flurry clouds far to the north across the bay. Tide was right in so no beach. Round trip was 40 miles.

I'm due back in early May. Hope the weather will be warmer by then.
Hopefully next time it will be a nice sunny day & maybe we won't be locked down, so you can enjoy it more.

Even me, who hates traveling, longs to go to the seaside, or just somewhere else that isn't home or work....

I've spent far too long over the last week looking for a holiday cottage with a sea view, wishing that the week we have off in May will be doable.

We have a caravan in Wales booked for spring, but I doubt it will happen, and 2 weeks off work but nothing booked in late summer. At this rate even a paddle in Severn springs seems a luxury.

Late summer has to happen, surely? We've got a holiday booked then and even us not quite in our 40s will have had a vaccine...

Just want to say thanks to @FooFighter & @EasMid for encouraging me to get tested. Nowwhere near as bad as I thought it would be & I feel much better for having done it.

I do think more people should get tested regularly, especially if they are working with the public through this.
Thanks for the thanks!

If anyone wants a test, turn up at Kingston, or any other site, and we'll get you sorted.
I fully understand the apprehension and nay saying but if we can subdue this as much as possible, it's a cup half full not half empty.
I know I don't see eye to eye with everyone and have been too vocal in saying so -sincerely sorry @proactive - but IMHO it's what we need to do to help curtail this crap situation.
We all want the same thing but see the path forward in different ways

I've always thought it a waste of resources/nhs money to get tested if you have no symptoms, probably my age - you don't go to/call the Dr unless absolutely nessacary, but I can see it from a totally different view now.

What scared me most was my super fit son & DIL catching it when they are, super fit, in their late 20's with no medical problems at all, and they were both so very ill.

Anyone who is working AT ALL with the public should be being tested at least weekly.

Thanks again.

Hearing of lots of over 65s in the area getting their vaccines.
Hope I get the call up soon then, being 65.
Is It by a phone call, text or letter through the post?
( My faulty phone won't work with calls & texts whilst charging , so going to have to charge overnight so that I'm contactable and hope it doesn't play up. :hmm: )

I've changed our March holiday week to June instead.

Even if Boris relaxes restrictions and allows us to go , the death/ infection rates in that area are too high to risk.

Holiday cottage owner says their care homes have suddenly had a big rise in covid deaths in this past month, far higher than in the first wave. , Which is contributing to the high numbers ( I've been tracking their hospital data and been regularly about 23 deaths a day).

With the South African variant now being found close to sons home in Worcester , I'm giving up hope of us ever getting back to ' normal' in my lifetime :(

Just seen a doctor on BBC say they usually text to let you know but he also said you can arrange how they will notify you with your GP.

He even suggested that some people may want their next of kin to be notified if they were unable to take the notification themselves for any reason e.g. they don't have a mobile or a landline, etc.

If they open up for holidays before Easter I'd be surprised - it would be better to wait until the kids are back at school I think, fingers crossed for the start of May.

What is normal? If this has taught us anything I hope it's taught us that many normal lifestyles are just too stressful. It became a badge of honour that the more you worked, the less time you had for yourself, and the more stressed you were meant you were better at your job. I really hope that doesn't happen again.

Not pinning my hopes on our end of April week going ahead either.
The June week has just been pencilled in as well for now to hold it for us, with no deposits or anything being required , with so much uncertainty.

Just had a text from my dentist (after numerous texts recently to say my check-up is long overdue , yet it's them who cancelled the original one ...) saying the check-ups and examinations are cancelled until the end of March due to Covid restrictions.

Just got a missed call from a 'Private Number' .......now wondering whether it's the doctors trying to ring about vaccinations , as theirs has come up as private number in the past. (Most likely a cold caller though!)

I know a few people who’ve had the jab. All were notified by text & they all replied yes to the question. I suppose if you don’t reply for whatever reason they’d contact you by letter. Father in law was contacted through sister in law ( she’s his contact point at gp’s)

Just had a message from my boss asking if I'm taking half term off, I've queried how many holidays I have left and if I have to use them by April.
