Coronavirus.

250,000th poster!
My son has just tested positive twice using home test kit and is awaiting results from a full test he took at the Britannia stadium.

His symptoms are feeling a bit fatigued so hopefully that's as bad as it will get.

The only place he's been recently is to work at Aldi in Stoke and only been in contact with his mum (apart from customers and colleagues).

His mum thinks she can go back to work after her leave in 3 days because she has tested negative so I reminded her that the legal requirement is that she has to self isolate for 10 days as well regardless of her test result. This is correct isn't it?
Hope you are ok @Thehooperman

Downside of restrictions is that we shall start having visitors back on the ward.
Only 1 person will be able to visit at any time, and that visit will probably be limited to 30-45 minutes.
Only problem with that for me is, I sodding dislike the relatives, expect overnight miracles and complain when they don't happen.

Received this from work, deleted bits and bobs so as to protect identities etc -

You will see from earlier email consideration of visiting on ourward being recommenced. There is strict guidance especially as the new variant is in Stafford area and visiting is only in EXCEPTIONAL circumstances at present and NOT for all patients; we need to be mindful of this as patients may ask about their family and currently not in a position to facilitate this.

We will look at using a big room as it is more spacious than a bedroom and needs to be ventilated prior to the visit and during please see guidance.

you only has to self isolate by law if:
  • you tests positive for coronavirus
  • nhs test and trace tell you to self-isolate because you’ve been in contact with someone with coronavirus – this doesn’t include being told by the NHS COVID-19 app
  • your school tells you to self-isolate because you’ve been in contact with someone with coronavirus
NHS told all those ,that son had named as being in touch with, that they must self isolate for 10 days.
Saying that..... Some only knew because son messaged them after receiving positive results.
Some only got the message to isolate really late that evening ( and lucky son had already told them to get tested and isolate , or they would have been in work that night.) Quite a few of those were positive with no symptoms , so at least son prevented them spreading it further.
Some reckoned they hadn't been contacted by track n trace at all .....

On another note, my neighbour works in Stoke hospital. He's taking part in a research programme testing how long antibodies last in an infected person afterwards.
He only found out from antibody testing that he'd actually had Covid-19 asymptomatically early on in the first wave.

Latest tests , 9 months on, are showing he's still got a fair amount of antibodies in his blood.

Apparently they are including in group 6 (the current group) anyone with a BMI of over 40.

It could explain why some people are being offered it even though they are not in the older age group or don’t have underlying health issues.

I feel like part of the reason we’re struggling so much as a country with this may be because people consider a BMI of 40 to not be an underlying health condition. That is not just obese, it’s morbidly obese. It’s morbid for a reason.

They seem to stick around for very varying periods of time, though the actual long-term protection comes from T (B?) Cells that produce the antibodies, so if they didn’t stick around for a while it also wouldn’t be a big deal.

Makes me want to get an antibody test again though... remember when we were promised one for every adult last year?

I just decided to check how much heavier I'd need to be to have a BMI of 40, I'd need to almost double my weight! Since I stopped running I've gained a bit of weight too, so it is pretty much double my 'normal' weight.

Yeah, but imagine all the extra exercise you would get, carrying a person of the same weight around with you all day.

1240-1340 - LFT test at Kingston available tomorrow - friday. Council incorrectly closed the lanes and have now been opened if you want a booking

Thanks for the heads up @FooFighter. I booked a test for 12.40 today following your post and turned up at 12.35 only to be told they weren't testing until 13.00.

Anyway I went to the door at my appointment time and was admitted after a few minutes after they'd cleaned the room.

It wasn't a major problem for me as I'm off today but I would imagine that some people would have booked specific time off and as a result may not have been able to get tested.

Thanks for the feedback and for getting tested.
1pm timing info from the vaccine volunteer marshalls at the gate?
If so I'll re-align them on our daily timings.

Yes it was from the people on the gate but it was quite clearly people were not being allowed in when I went to the door so I assume the marshals were just saying what they'd been told.

That's good to hear! I was reading some stats on Twitter yesterday demonstrating that, although the anti-vaxxers are loud on social media, general uptake has been large enough that they're not a significant factor when it comes to the effectiveness of herd immunity.

Most of the anti-vaxxers that I know are people who, oddly, think of themselves as "socialist", yet they are not prepared to join in what is essentially a social programme, on the grounds (often) that it is largely for the benefit of capitalist society.

It's a weird discussion that I make efforts to avoid.
