I propose a cricket pavilion, hockey pitch, thicket hedge, sugar buns in the cloisters, head ducking in the urinals, caning in the listed building, and a crush hall

A sort of cruel theme park from 1968
You forgot "Boris sending you to look for fairies behind the cricket pavilion"

Translation: Maths teacher not lying fat politician.

And somewhere up where the blokes wash your car in Tesco car park lived real fairies.

The former wanted to know if any inmates had a 'gift' of 'sight'

But they usually Tanked it

Ive briefly read the supporting planning documentation. Its states that the Health and Fitness suite will be used by residents and family and friends only, therefore, it won't be open to the general public.

The change of use application is also seeking to provide a social facility. It's not clear yet what this will be / could be.

I'm really pleased that's beautiful and prominent building is being converted into a variety of uses.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
It should be knocked down and made into a larger car park for Tesco

Does anybody know about the full details of the updated plan? I know houses and apartments are now going in but what about the rest?

The latest planning documents are at 20/33631/FUL.

What do you mean by 'the rest'? The existing school building fronting Newport Road is staying, and being converted to one- or two-bedroom flats. The octagonal assembly hall at the junction with Friar Lane is going to be a health & fitness area for residents, family and friends only.

Thanks. Last I could remember there was some uncertainty about how much was residential and, as a former pupil, I just found it hard to imagine what they were doing with some of it especially residential right opposite a night club.

Are you a member of the old boys association? My dad was there in the 50s and goes to all the dos.

A few posts under my belt
As an Old Ed it would pain me if the old assembly hall and Newport Road facade were lost. I remember my dad (also an Old Ed.) telling me that the Old Eds were active in getting the building listed when they first started talking about demolition.
