◄---GAWD HELP ME what have I started ? :o
Well, since being rebuilt a hundred years ago in 1921 the Coach and Horses has subsided slightly as can be seen here in the gap between the pub and the framework of the new Civic Centre widening upwards.

This reminds me of a Stafford Facebook group where there used to be a guy who would give you the make of a crane in any pix you posted.

I mean who in ****'s name becomes a crane spotter ?

The crane in this pix was being used to build the council offices, (where the baths used to be.) And I DON'T know the bloody make of it. :P

Be fair, it's easy to get hooked.

I had a look on Google Earth street view to check some of those angles with the Council Offices. That was a mistake !! You can't even see those offices due to new buildings which I didn't know about. Hasn't that site changed a bit, although I'm sure I took some pix in Mill Bank three or four years ago (which have been arranged into a 'neat and orderly' format so now I can't find them. (dig @Carole).)

Well this Crane, on Radford Meadows, 9 years ago, attracted a decent crowd.

Apparently the community supermarket has closed, said to be relocating but who knows, well, that was the word on Facebook yesterday.

Yeah, it's been closed since mid March I think, I did seem very sudden, especially without a sense of if it's reopening, or a new use for the building.

I'm assuming other food redistribution charities have had a significant impact to their intake.

PROGRESS:

I don’t go down the High Street now
there’s nothing for me there.
It’s full of shops that do your nails
or cut and colour hair.

I don’t go down the High Street now
and neither does me wife.
What used to be a thriving hub
is now devoid of life.

They’re building shops way out of town
there’s nowhere else to go.
The High Street I’m afraid to say
has hit an all-time low.

The High Street used to sing and dance,
at least it did to me.
But now it’s sadly out of step
and painfully off key.

But way back in the hey day
when the High Street was the king,
oh you could spend all day down there
and buy just anything!

But now the king has lost his crown,
no longer does he reign.
He’s been dethroned by hyper stores
and supermarket chains.

Just like a vampire in the night
they swooped down from the sky.
They forced the people out of town
and sucked the High Streets dry.

We used to have so many shops
for all that we might need.
For furniture for shoes and clothes
and cakes or books to read.

Butchers bakers fishmongers
sold fresh and wholesome stuff.
And though our families were not rich
we all ate well enough.

But now they’ve gone, it’s progress see
yes all have been replaced
by take-aways and coffee shops
with all their plastic waste!

With automatic checkout tills
appearing everywhere.
No conversation, pleasantries
or anecdotes to share.

I heard it said that money talks
at first I had me doubts.
And I was right it does not talk,
that money bloody shouts!

It’s always been the same of course
it’s human nature see.
We have to travel with the times
that’s how it has to be.

And kids today they say I’m old
and I of course agree.
They say the future is for them
and not the likes of me.

My answer flutters on the breeze,
a flag that’s flown half mast.
“I wouldn’t want your future kids...
I much prefer my past.”

Just walked past Shuropody, and they seem to be clearing out the store ? Hope it's not another casualty , it hasn't long been trading here.

Don't think this will be an isolated branch closing, the company has been in and out of financial trouble since 2018, and a suggested search was Shuropody closing.

The old McGregor's is being striped out by metal collector guys. Thought there'd be more value selling the stuff than scrapping it , but hey ho.

Not sure if the shoe shed has finally closed , walked past yesterday , and the signs saying now open have been tapped over rather abruptly.

The website store locator seems to have also removed Stafford, seems all we were worth was an eBay store.

https://www.bluntsshoes.com/our-stores/

Shame really, give it a few years and Clarks will go from the Guildhall , and ShoeZone is a waste of time. Looks like that'll be another thing forced online. :(

As posted on Facebook, Bryan Taylor who runs the fruit and veg stall in the indoor market is leaving. He's posted that he has plans but no permanent new location as yet.

During the pandemic Brian Taylor has developed / expanded to offer a fantastic home delivery service. May be he is going to focus his full attention on growing that business.

There is little footfall in the market and there doesn't seem much interest by the owners to do anything to address that. Very sad.
