Had a natter in passing this morning with the lovely @Glam, & a similar conversation at work around the same time..

What did you want to to when you left school? I wanted to be a nurse, but 1 year of training on a Psycho-geriatric ward then a dermatology ward changed my vary nieve mind!

Had a wander up Oldacre Valley and back along the old railway line parallel with Chase Road tonight. Counted well over 100 Fallow deer. Must have been gathering for a rave and not a sign of social distancing.
Must have been the herd we saw a few weeks ago , by the quarry on Chase Rd. Counted at least 80 , and more probably passed before we spotted them.

We then went on to see another group of 20+ slightly further over, as well as a smaller group just before that .

Beautiful sight :)

When I renew my phone contract , going to go for a phone with a better camera to capture moments like that.

I wanted to be a lorry or bus driver. But married young, then the babies came along, and we never had the money for me to learn. I didn't pass my driving test till I was 28.
Bit late now.

My last renewal was based almost purely on the camera, and it's not let me down. It's nearly 3 years old now so time for an upgrade, but most phones lately seem to have gone for ultra wide angle at the expense of zoom. Great for in a city where you want to get in a nice building, but for me in most situations it's much easier to move away from an object I want to shoot than towards.

I learnt to drive when I was thirty and that was only in case I needed it for work which I did for jobs of a year from 2006 to 2007 and ten years from 2007 to 2017.

I wanted to be a merchant seaman or a Redcoat at Butlins. I ended up doing the latter but always wanted to work on ships. A coincidence was an old redcoat friend of mine ended up on ships.

When I was a kid I used to want to be a nurse, librarian , police officer ..whatever book I was reading at the time. Then in later school years decided becoming a teacher like my dad would be good, being the teacher telling the kids off instead of me being told off all the time...

Applied for the Police , Navy , Army and RAF but at that time you had to be 5'3" and my 5'2" would only stretch to 5' 2 & a quarter for the one interview. I would have especially loved to eventually be a dog handler in the Police , and a driver in the other forces.

As soon as I passed my driving test at 17 , decided I wanted to become a HGV1 lorry driver , inspired by meeting the truckers at the cafe at Barlaston on our way back from the nightclubs in Stoke-on-Trent . Was really serious about that, my dream job driving around the country . But my parents wouldn't lend me the money for the lessons and test. I wanted to pass the HGV1 as well so that I could drive all types, but that was more expensive than just the HGV3 .

Brings back memories of a HGV lorry driver friend stopping to give me a lift to GEC one morning . Wearing my tight pencil skirt, had to hitch it up around my waist to be able to get my legs up the high steps. Then when he stopped right outside the works gates, had to get back out of the cab yet again hitching it up around my waist , giving all the employees streaming through the gates a right laugh  :embarrass:

I also learnt to drive a car for my job but then refused to drive a company vehicle for years because they flat out refused to contribute a single penny to the cost of my lessons. I rode my bikes at the time and didn't own a car.

There was a clause in my job description that said "must be willing or able to drive company vehicles" and I always said that I was able so was compliant.

I didn't plan on education, I just didn't want to be unemployed, so did college and when prospects still weren't great uni. Had a total of 3 months out of work in well over 20 years so not all bad, although not all jobs were my first choice!

As a child I always wanted to be a squirrel - that unfortunately didn't work out for me!!

In the end I've had all sorts of jobs!

Retail, office work, garden centre staff, I had a short stint at a beauty pageant company for a while....

I've been a youth worker, envelope packer and finally settled in teaching!

Yet five years down the line I now work as a civil servant for the Scottish government (I don't want to say exactly what online but it's to do with trees!!)

I don't know where life is going to take me but I've enjoyed the ride so far!

The only reason I learnt to drive, was because the ex f-i-l fell and broke his right arm while walking up the Peaks. It had been a particularly hot summer and Lady Bower had dropped to such a level that you could see the old village. The old biatch of a m-i-l couldn't drive, so they struggled back from Derbyshire, him holding the wheel with just his left arm, and her doing the gears when he said so.
I wasn't bothered about learning, but I'm glad I did now.
