A friend of mine lives on Wildwood and would like to join the Boat Club. They don’t have a boat but want to use it as a social place for drinks and the occasional meal.
Is anybody on here a member or know much about it? The website seems up-to-date but the opening hours are (during normal times) 8pm til 11pm on weekdays.
Thanks in advance.

Suggest email or phone them. The alternative is to go down there and talk to them. Used to be a buzzer on the gate you pressed to gain access I assume that is still the case. The attitude seems to be come down and talk to us. It is very boat orientated and I am not sure about social members. Not sure how much there is in the way of food either. Haven't boated for 20 years so no recent personal knowledge

To join you would have to fill in a form with your details and be proposed and seconded by two members. After being accepted there is a one-off entrance fee of £20 and £40 per year until in the case of a couple one of you becomes 60 when the annual fee is £20.00. For single members, its £20.00 and for juniors aged 18years -21years is £10 with both single and junior entrance fees being £10.

Maybe go along suitably dressed.

After attending a birthday party at the boat club a few years ago we were so impressed that we were considering joining. It'd be ideal being only a couple of minutes walk from home. I remember one of the members saying to go along and make enquiries when we asked about the procedure to join (but then my parents died and being busy sorting things the boat club joining idea went on the back burner, followed by covid etc)

Would still like to look into it again though , as the location and setting is fantastic. Only saw it at night time time when went for the private function, but looks a nice place for a relaxing drink .

What you have to do is press the buzzer and say: "Arrrrrrrrrrh ... avast there ya swabs, get those decks swabbed Arrrrrrrrh, Oi wants em shining whiter than the pearlys of a south seas maiden Aaaaaaaaarh."

(However, if men in white coats come and take you away, don't come to me with any landlubber whines ..... Arrrrrrrrh.) :P:heyhey:

I went a 50th birthday do a few years back, we were clustered in one room. Soon made me excuses and naffed off home.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Triangle and Terry and June is quite close to the mark from what I've observed.

Anyway I went every year when they had the bonfire and the first few were really excellent with some top notch grub, though we are taking 40 years ago. The second year I went, one of my mate's parents were there, holding court as was their way, and a rocket was lit as part of the display. Unfortunately it did not depart in a vertical manner, as intended but in a rather more horizontal way and went right up my mate's mother's skirt. Fortunately she managed to get it away from her before it exploded so no physical harm was done but even though we were laughing our heads off, she didn't appear amused by the incident...

I also attended a bonfire there in the late 70's- early 80's. They had a boat on the bonfire. Was that a regular thing or a one off?

They just used whatever wood they'd collected throughout the year. That year somebody must have had a boat beyond economic repair.
