Luckily, we have just had quite a sharp shower here.

I say 'luckily' because it means that I can cease weeding for a while now.

This will also reduce the likelihood of a repeat occurrence of a recent faux-pas.

I was operating in the front garden and we get quite a lot of walkers passing by - not realising that one was just about to come into view, I felt it acceptable to shout "Don't you shit there, you bastard!".

I was actually issuing instructions to the Robin sitting on the spade handle, whilst I did 99% of the work, but the poor woman who had just come into view was near enough to hear me clearly, but not to see who else I could be referring to, but her...

To be fair to her, she did not contravene my instructions either.

Did a totally stooooopid thing this morning.

I'd got sons spare car keys in my pocket after helping him put his stuff back in the car for his journey back home. Once he'd gone I backed our car out of the garage to get the bins through and washed it whilst out.
Went to drive it back in the garage afterwards, opened the doors with the key out of my pocket, but it wouldn't unlock the steering lock or turn the ignition. Hubby came out and tried them, still no luck but when he tried with his keys his worked ok. He got me to try my keys locking and unlocking the doors again , whilst he was inside. They worked ok on the doors . So he tried them in the ignition....no luck! Then I realised........ I was using sons keys

Scary thing is though , now found out that sons keys actually open and lock our car doors. So how many other Vauxhall keys will open it as well? :hmm:

Thanks all.

On the "bad customer service" front, I was reminded of when I needed to buy a new iPad Pro for work late last year so I ordered one from Curry's website and paid extra for next day delivery. It didn't turn up and I realised by the end of the day it wasn't even marked as dispatched so I got onto their online help and found out the item I ordered (which, being the Pro model, was around £700) was not in stock. The guy on the help told me they did not know when it would be in stock again, so I asked to cancel the order and get a refund. The guy said OK and then proceeded to wait 40-60 minutes between each reply to me, which usually consisted of "please hold on sir, I'm just following up on this enquiry" and other responses designed to not further the refund at all. The game was quite clearly to make me wait for so long that I quit the chat before he had to do the refund, but I wasn't going to do that... think I was on there with him for about 2 hours before he finally put it through, and he sent me 5 messages in that time!

I looked on trustpilot and there were loads of people reporting exactly the same problem, that Currys had listed an item as in stock when it was unavailable, taken the money and - in many cases - they had been unable to get a refund. Absolutely shocking for a company as big as Currys, I wouldn't have thought twice about buying from them.

In the mid-1980s, when Argos was wont to to issue leaflets with special offers on, there was one with a CD player at a remarkably good price.

Stafford didn't have one.

I rang Stoke, Wolverhampton etc - nobody nearby had one.

This being pre-internet, there was no easy way to see into their system from outside, but I managed to find a number for the central 'control', Milton Keynes, I think, and someone there, when asked for the nearest store that actually had one, had to admit that they didn't really have any at all, anywhere.

I presume the idea was that some people would select the nearest thing, not at a sale price, when their target purchase was revealed to be unobtainable?

They still do that. It's one reason why I don't touch them any more. Currys, for the same reason plus their customer services has always been utter crap.

Son ordered something from Currys last year , said it was in stock. Took his money , then promptly said it wasn't in stock and they had cancelled his order. But the money was still in 'Pending' and unavailable in his bank account , so he couldn't buy from elsewhere until a month later when they actually got around to releasing the £400+ back. He tried ringing but weren't answering the phones.

He should have learnt his lesson after their washing machine saga previously...

They let him down badly with a washing machine he'd ordered a few years ago moving into a flat. The store were very reassuring that it could be delivered to an upstairs flat. I made several journeys down the motorway to wait in for it. First excuse was there was a road race on so they couldn't get through (yet I'd made it there). Then 2 more no-shows , then finally said they don't deliver to flats anyway. Had to go to the store for a refund . They reckoned they could give compensation for inconvenience and cost of travelling and waiting in , but we'd have to apply to customer services for it. Gave us claim numbers etc. Customer services told us to get lost when we submitted the claim.

I'd never use them after ordering a washing machine for ourselves years ago. Blokes arrived , looked in the kitchen, said it would be too hard for them to fit the pipes and wouldn't even attempt to install it. Then as they walked out they pinched a banana out of the fruit bowl.:o

In the old days, if you dropped your car keys in a car park and wandered off, without realising, then somebody found them and was minded to pinch your car with them, the best they could do was try to surreptitiously use the keys in any cars of that make - if they weren't lucky with the first one, they would soon start to look shifty to even the most casual observer.

Now, with remote locking, all they would have to do, in most cases, is saunter casually around, clicking the button hidden in their pocket, until the car identifies itself to them, unlocks and is ready to drive away, without any shady-looking behaviour being necessary...

Went to curry's a few years ago to look at buying a new washing machine, the price was really good but the staff member showing us them spent the whole time with his hands down his trousers fiddling with his tackle.... Needless to say we walked out.

Husband ordered a new washing machine online 2 days ago from some home appliance centre, it's being delivered tomorrow... Woohooo.

Years ago my sister needed a new TV, had to be from Currys for some reason (may have been insurance?). Chose one easy enough but the guy then started the upsell on the HDMI leads. You know the sort, gold plated diamond encrusted GTi with go faster stripes cables, just £60, will make the TV really work at it's best. So I asked if any of the TVs in the shop were using them, he said no. I asked why, when they'd sell more TVs, he said they were too expensive to use on display units (that cost 10x the price). I challenged him to open one and let me plug a random lead into a random TV, and if he could tell me which was using the expensive cable I'd buy it, he muttered something about not being allowed and walked off.

If it had been me I'd have left immediately, but she had to buy it there so we went to another member of staff. He asked where the guy dealing with us had gone, and I said we could smell his bullshit too easily so he went for an easier target. New guy just sold us the TV, didn't even try anything else. If there is one thing I hate it's a salesman that only cares about his commission, I'll pay extra to see a product and talk to someone knowledgeable but the second you start the upsell nonsense you've lost my business. Richer Sounds used to be great, not been instore for years though since I moved back to the midlands.

On the upside I can 100% recommend AO for appliances.

I had to order new everything when we moved, prices were competitive (and price matched if found cheaper elsewhere) delivery was on time and I could track it second by second.

Their customer service was excellent and I never spent more than 2 mins on hold.

We had an issue with our TV (basically we purchased the wrong thing) and they sent us a £50 Roku package for free to sort it (thank you @tek-monkey for the recommendation!)

Won't go anywhere else!

I usually ask them what they have at home and why. It usually gets an honest, common sense reply.

Agreed, we've used them several times especially for white goods. My only complaint is they're always more interested in trying to sell the extra guarantees etc but once they get the message they're fine. They are persistent with emails & follow up calls though trying to sell them.

I can second AO. Had a few things off them now, and never had a problem, if we've had a problem.
