Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

Was thinking similar, there's virtually no light available apart from the top floor, unless they make it a fake indoor street with flats each side? And even then each place would only get light on one side.
I'd imagine that's what they'd do, keeping a walkway through it connecting the church yard to the college and town centre area.

Unless of course accomodation is just going in the market side , which will be selectively demolished, and inside will continue to offer some shops.

There aren’t any planning applications in as far as I can see.
Once most of the new apartments are occupied a retrospective planning application will be submitted by the developer and grudgingly accepted by the council.

They need to submit a change of use. There are a lot of hoops to jump through before this happens, its not a new conservatory.
Yes, that's what I meant, a planning application for change of use, probably from A1 ( shops ) to something like C4 ( small houses in multiple occupation ).
And if our planners give retrospective planning permission for Wetherspoons ripping seats out of the Picture House they're likely to give it for this.

John German have decided that Brocton offers better prospects than the town centre.

Probably quite a bit cheaper renting a room in Brocton that was once the village shop than paying Stafford prices. Bearing in mind that most people head for Rightmove first when house hunting their office could be anywhere really.
I didn't realise the village shop had gone.
(Not walked past there since before first lockdown. Often used to stop off to buy a drink after a chase walk.)

They've still kept the post office, the bit on right hand side. You can buy cards, a few sweets and drinks but the main shop unit is now the estate agent.

Such a shame to see villages without a shop.
If I'd have been younger I wouldn't have minded running the shop in Bednall. That's also now gone and is in the process of being renovated.
