Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

You are correct and in response to Lucy's point, the venue before Stafford Arms was one of the best music and function venues in the town, not just a drinking establishment.
Oddly, perhaps, I have no memory of the existence of the Stafford Arms, until it became the de facto replacement for the Eagle.

Ah, I do have a vague recollection of Stephenson's Rocket, but may never have gone there much.

That surprises me. I think Dad and his mate casually worked the doors for both the Stephenson's Rocket and Rooster's.

It was Stephenson's Rocket from 1981, Roosters in Town from 1985 and the Stafford Arms again from 1993.
From the times it won Pub of the Year award, first under Hayden Roberts then Titanic, it could be said to be Stafford's best pub through the 1990s.

I only really remember it in the Bob Bell days.

I could make an innocuous thread about ball bearings and within 3 posts it would turn into a pub that was open in the 70s.
