Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

I thought that the Park Mine's chemical issue was the chlorine content.

That, plus coming at a time when opening mines was not high on the agenda, soon caused the idea to slide away.

Coal, the great driving force of the Industrial Revolution, is pretty much dead now (except in China maybe.) There's still a lot of coal under Britain, but we've got windmills and fission nukes and very possibly fusion reactors (promised to be about 10 years away for the last 40 or 50 years, although there have been some significant break throughs in recent years.) Don't think I'll ever see a nuclear fusion power station, although it is on my bucket list. :P
We're still burning a lot of fossil fuels for power, but nothing like we used to. And I note that even today, in Summer with high pressure and low winds, were getting a quarter of our power from renewables.

Now The Knight's Table (at The Travellers Rest).
Pretty certain that about 45 years ago the beer pumps were so close together they were almost touching and went around the end corner of the bar.
Thanks. i didn't know what it is now.
Yes, about 45 years ago it was "Now what would I like, Worthington E, Double Diamond, Watneys Red, Whitbread Tankard, Courage Tavern or Youngers Tartan ? No, none of them. Let's go somewhere with some proper beer"

Must've been really high. High sulphur content coal can be mixed with other coal to reduce overall emissions as was the case at the old Rugeley power station.
Being not many miles away i wouldn't have expected the coal there to be different from under Rugeley.

It all depends on the geological faults etc. (& coal measures have lots of faults). What is near the surface in one area can be 100s of metres down just a few miles away.

I've looked at a geological map and can see three faults between Rugeley and Stafford ( I previously thought Milford was one ).
I've learnt that Kingston Hill and Beacon Hill are Sherwood Sandstone.

The top one looks like the Travelers Rest to me. Don't know any of the others. The Rock Inn was in Upper Hulme as I remember, pretty much at the base of the Roaches. But can't really remember what it looked like .... (despite spending some time in there when camping/climbing.)

Yep that looks like it as I remember, a good view of the Roaches from there. I can honestly say that in my camping time being up there in the winter was about as cold as any night I can remember. The view from the top of the ridge looking West to Northwest is quite spectacular. I remember trying to figure what a weird distant object was when I suddenly realised it was the dish at Jodrell Bank. ;)

Yes, it's the top one.

I guess its fun for the 5 or 6 people that remember a pub in the 70s but for all of us that have seen almost every thread derailed, can’t someone start a thread for pubs that are no longer here?
There's little else discussed on the Beer and Pubs Forum but pubs are such a fascinating and popular topic that discussion of them inevitably crops up all over the place.

The problem is that nearly every thread turns into an episode of all our yesterdays and folk start rambling about pub's, shop's, club's and factorys that were around 50 odd years ago and whilst it can be entertaining most of the time it does derail any attempt to have a more serious conversation and i do wonder if that is putting off younger folk who see the forum as some sort of "old folks home"

Only because you make sure they do...

I go to a pub now and then, probably a pub you think isn't good enough though. The pubs you talk about wouldn't have been welcoming for me. It is putting me off posting.
