Also guilty. I shall retire to my study. There will be the sound of a pistol shit, I mean a postol shot, I mean a shostol pit, I mean a shistol pist !!! (aaahhh sod it I didn't want to do it anyway.) :P
Oh. No !
First Sonny Boy Williamson II, then Tillington Hall, and now discussing proper pubs is the last straw !

The problem is that nearly every thread turns into an episode of all our yesterdays and folk start rambling about pub's, shop's, club's and factorys that were around 50 odd years ago and whilst it can be entertaining most of the time it does derail any attempt to have a more serious conversation and i do wonder if that is putting off younger folk who see the forum as some sort of "old folks home"
But to put things into proportion probably only abut 2% or 3% of all the posts on the 150 pages here are about pubs.

Only because you make sure they do...

I go to a pub now and then, probably a pub you think isn't good enough though. The pubs you talk about wouldn't have been welcoming for me. It is putting me off posting.
So should I retire to my study and do the same as Bob ? .

He also used to frequent the Railway and the Castle.

I don't know how true it is, but I was told that, possibly on more than one occasion, he missed the last train and walked back along the railway.

Yes he did. He was a very good friend of my grandparents - Ian and Eileen Rennie. Miss them both very much.

The Railway and Tavern were always the venues used for family gatherings, as such I always have a huge soft spot for the Railway. I rarely visit the Railway now but whenever I do I love it. I have so many beautiful, happy, drunken, funny memories of time spent in that pub.

Yes, the Railway is probably my favourite Stafford pub.
I've known it since Lee Middle kept it in the mid 1970s.

He was a very good friend of anybody he met. Not too many years ago he must have seen the look of surprise on my face when I saw him in the Bird! Usual nod and alright mate! I nearly fell over!

Why are you all still talking about pubs on this thread at 7.39pm when a pub thread was opened especially for you this morning?

Pretty please all you “pubmen”, bugger off to the other thread and leave the rest of us alone.

I might get the girls to derail it while we talk about shoes and handbags and see how you like it.

There's lots of shoes in the Butler's bell :)

I remember the Old Cock's Arms on Doxey Road......used to pop in there in 1972 (even though I was born in 1976)...... Old Bob used to be the landlord (he was a character)......... Old Bob with the wonky eye used to drink in there too (he was a character as well, bumped into him in Ye Old Rose & Crown a few weeks ago, he's looking well for 117).....there were 1,000 ales on the cask......

I know nothing about shoes (apart from comfy ones) and handbags, FYI.
I don’t really to be honest, but was just making a point about derailing a thread.

Some threads always get derailed, as in a normal conversation. Things go off track, it happens.

My point is that some people have a limited intelligence and show themselves up by derailing every thread.

They only have one point of interest and expect everyone else to be of their same way of thinking.

They genuinely lack the social skills to understand that not everyone wants to discuss “their passion”

In the real world, at a party or social gatherings, you’d just avoid them ..... “” I’m so sorry, what you’re saying is fascinating but I really must go and use the facilities”.
