I eagerly await seeing some proper evidence about safety and side effects of the vaccines on under 18s. So far all there really is is political reassurances and slogans.

Making a decision which is essentially a bit of a gamble with your own long term health as an adult is fairly easy. Making one for a youngster, far less at risk of harm than yourself is another matter altogether.

I need much more convincing.
I completely agree. I’m glad I don’t have to make that decision, both my lads have just had their first jabs but it’s a decision they’ll both have to make & I don’t envy them. Who knows what the future could bring.

I have friends going to the Download Festival pilot next week, which is limited to 10,000 people and requires proof of a negative test (ie a text from the NHS) upon entry, but it still seems like madness to me. Maybe it would seem less so if it wasn't for the fact that a negative test is required upon initial entry but then you can come and go as you please over the 3 days.

I suppose it's important to do these kind of things now, though.... we know that mass protests don't appear to cause spikes so maybe the same will apply there. I guess having been to the event myself 5 times and knowing the crud you usually bring home with you and suffer with for a week after doesn't inspire confidence when there is actually a highly transmissible virus around... XD

I know of a student who returned to Stafford from Manchester uni last Thursday, after a negative lat flow test result. Felt really ill on the Friday and the PCR test booked the next day tested positive.
Lots could be going around these festivals thinking they are safe after negative results if asymptomatic and being super spreaders.

Noticed in the pub tonight , some people being a bit blase about the covid mask wearing rules...

You can’t really catch it from someone who caught it the same day, it takes >2 days to incubate. People being able to come and go is more likely to skew results rather than actually cause spread

Aye but it's a three day event and many people won't be leaving until the morning of the fourth day. I take your point, though.

TBH I'd be more worried about people faking a negative result to get in when they haven't even taken one, since you only have to show a text message. As far as I know, you're meant to send the test off in the post on the same day you go to the festival so it can be checked but not sure what exactly they can do if people don't send them or say they were lost in the post.

Again, speaking from experience of having been to Download, I absolutely would not put it past *some* of the people who attend.

I guess the point is the safety regulations don't really feel as secure as they'd need to be, for me, given there is going to be no social distancing and no masks.

So how long after your arm falls off post-jab should you yellow card it if it doesn’t reattach?

I’d give it at least 48 hours. Make sure you carry it around with you in case it spontaneously reattaches. (Oh, on second thoughts that might be a bit difficult)
