Guildhall closure?

Adding more insult to injury, on a slightly unrelated note, some planning bots were eyeing up the row of shops from cash converters, all the way down to the old Argos, apparently a homeless guy ended up setting fire to the front of the old Argos apparently, hence the boarding, so the "officials", guessing the owners of the strip were speaking to the other "suited officials" on about valuations and the potential to offload the lot.

Watch shop and phone accessory store gone in the run ways outside O2.

Not much left now, few months of the centre left maybe ?

I'd imagine the remaining tenants are already having crisis talks with their real estate agents, no one's going to carry on paying rent for zero footfall, so they'll probably leave on their own accord unfortunately.

I think the travel agents in the Guildhall, may be moving to the old Hayes / Thomas Cook place, someone said they were looking for alternative options, and the old Thomas cook is currently being striped out.

I did notice a lot of movement in there

All that money for 'transforming the highstreet' is tied up in schemes the council claims is commercially sensitive and won't tell us about. Who wants to take bets that money goes to the Guildhall owners.....

Apparently the scheme will involve the demolition of a lot of buildings (which the council do not own) and the creation of a new plaza area.

It will be interesting to see if it happens.

The car crash continues, Poundland closes August 23rd.

Can't blame them if it was their choice to leave, the centre was deserted mid afternoon last week.

I really hope they take on a larger unit. Maybe the empty unit by Aldi or takeover one of the units by Matalan.

Would be a lot better if they got a unit in the middle of town, that store generated a lot of footfall and it would be a shame if it went away from the market square area

The old M&S would be good, but probably a bit TOO big for them - although, they could then expand their clothing offering.
