Defending the Floodplain.

At what point can those who have their businesses and homes flooded and partially destroyed hold developers and councils responsible? How many more need to be destroyed?

I’ve very thankful that both my home and office are on hills, but feel for those who are affected by this

ATS and Shell are both part of very big groups so maybe their presence is more important and they pick up the concerns? Not sure how it works having such businesses as franchises, which is what I am guessing they are.

The Shell is a Franchise. A very big franchise but still a franchise. There has to come a time when they say sod it. I know of a business on Astonfields who have said that and are moving their office. The takeaway, ATS and Shell, they must be thinking this is getting old.

But at least they'll take comfort from the fact that the council couldn't give a stuff about them.

Hi All, Hope someone can help - Now the floodwaters are receding and on the realisation that if we don’t defend the floodplain then, at some point, the floodplain will stop defending us I was wondering how best to do this. For example I have found this planning application to build a care home directly on the active floodplain (20/31757/FUL). Now I’m not a neighbour and don’t live in the Penkside Ward so it’s just by chance I’ve stumbled across it. So question - Is there a way of finding out all current planning applications that are within the Stafford floodplain? Or is anyone aware of any other applications that are on the floodplain I could object to? Thanks :)
An application has gone in for an eco house on floodplain at pioneer way although planning has not been passed they are already tipping truckloads os soil into the floodplain to build up the land surely this will cause flooding to be worse elsewhere in silkmore / meadow fields area

Starting to fill in the floodplain opposite this building near pioneer way been watching the trucks tipping the soil its a disgrace that they can get away with it
Had a quick cycle round but cannot see what they are doing from the road :-( Have you any pictures? Christine & Ray Barron have called the development in so please let them know what is going on along with Jessica Allsopp the planning officer.

The plan was to add a balancing lake over by Pioneer. The intention then would be to reduce the flood risk. I would have to ask if this is still the case.

They are taking the soil in through mandarin walk off silkmore crescent you can see piles of soil already to be moved in seems like a lot has gone in already

This is incorrect. Its not my place to say what its being used for, but speaking with a friend who is connected, the piles of dirt are in no way being used for building or extending a building.
Said dirt is nothing to do with the eco house application.

The dirt and hardcore is being used to fill the flood plain and raise the ground level in that area regardless

That wasn’t what you said I was merely correcting you. I believe they are raising the level of their garden to remove flood risk.

I apologise if I am appearing evasive on this, in all honesty its not my information to give. I can say that large swathes of land have been sold at the back of Mandarin and beyond and I know that one of the purchasers has bought them to keep as they are, and in some cases plant trees and encourage wildlife. I know this as fact and not here-say.
