Taxi ranks in town

Where would you find taxis late afternoon/early evening monday-fridays nowadays in Stafford town centre?

Thinking of stopping off for a drink in town when we come back from London , but no idea where to catch one back home from afterwards other than walking back to the station or ringing for one . (Normally get them by Casa on nights out , but never seen them there when I've walked past in the daytime).

the only 4 I know of are:
South Walls (behind the Civic Centre)
Waterfront Way (next to odeon)
Stafford Railway Station
Broad Street (near wilko)

Cheers . Just looked on streetview and seen a 'Taxi Info' sign on Southwalls. Never actually noticed any taxi's there though myself as I've passed during the day :hmm:

Casa or Wilkos, most Supermarkets also have dedicated Taxi lines too, if you should happen to want to buy a few Ciders to enjoy at home....

No choice of taxi company though, its whoever they're connected to.... (I *think it's Westside at Sainsburys..... Other supermarkets have more Cidre (as I found out today)).

Thanks . Noticed googling that Stafford is supposed to have some Uber around as well . Never ordered one myself , although son regularly orders one where he lives so he'll know how to get one if there is , as he'll be with us ...unless me & hubby decided to stay on longer ourselves (in which case we may never find Euston station again, never mind stafford )

Last time we used a taxi was just after @Gramaisc' s 60th, I was horrified at the cost .....never been in an uber!

Nor me , but son uses them all the time. (worries me though when he's abroad and can't order it until just before he wants one to get back to the airport. His " There's always plenty around" doesn't quite reassure me !)

From what i've seen on way to work and many stranded people still waiting for taxis at around 4-30-5am, taxis in stafford are somewhat shite.

Might end up walking home then. Wouldn't mind normally but will have my little suitcase weighing a ton .

Last time we were going to get a taxi from Casa , it was when the railway lines were flooded and all trains stopped at Stafford. So taxi ranks were full of hundreds of people from Stoke and further afield off the trains trying to get home , and hardly any taxis returning to the rank with doing long journeys .
We were about to start walking home instead and suddenly saw a Cannock bus stopped at the traffic lights by the Grapes . Jumped on , bus started off as we were paying when the lights turned green . Asked for Wildwood and found out he was going through Penkridge instead of straight up the Cannock Rd. Ended up having to get off a bit further down the road and finish the journey home on foot in the end

Is it possible to book in advance with a taxi company? probably the best bet, and saves worrying.

I've also heard taxis like to wait until after 12...because the price goes up.. but I guess you won't have to worry about that as it sounds like you'll be off home alot earlier than midnight.

In the day it shouldn't be too hard to sort :) I think you'll be ok though if it's not at the weekend.

Just thinking of maybe stopping off in The Bird In hand or somewhere for a few drinks and a bite to eat just round the holiday off if we feel like it. But don't know what time train we will be returning on and how long /if we will be around town. May even extend London an extra night if we're really enjoying it , so nothing will be known for definite . Will be a spur of the moment / see how we feel at the time.

Booked the taxi down to the station weeks in advance to make sure. Even then they weren't sure if they'd have a taxi at that busy time of morning, so we reconfirmed nearer the time to make sure it was actually still booked in ! Hopefully not having a quick jog down to the station. At least it's mostly down hill that way :D

Enjoying a drop of red.

If you're stopping at the Bird, isn't it just as easy to nip back to the station and catch your taxi from there, where you know that will be one?

You could just drive to the station, and drive home... I think someone said parking was 'reasonable'...

Probably will do that with it being just around the corner. Is there normally a few waiting around there all the time? (Never done this catching trains thing before myself , and only time I'm usually at the station is to pick up or drop off ...first time in my 65 years visiting London , and one of the last times I caught a train it was the type I later saw in the York Railway Museum  )

There's always a couple and considerably more when a London/Manchester/Liverpool train is due.

You could call a cab from the Bird once you know more info on the night. It will be cheaper than the taxi rank and they'll pick up from the front door.

Also if you're coming back on a Monday the Bird don't do meals on Monday nights but they have rolls, scotch eggs etc in the fridge.
