I've been guilty too without a paper disk to remind you it's too easily done. they do send a polite you forgot your road tax letter though. a quick visit to their online website and I was taxed for 12 months for the princely sum of £0. unfortunately, I can't set up a DD for my vehicle so have marked it on the calendar. imagine how pissed you'd be if you were charged £100 for not settling your £0 bill.
I know someone who was fined £200 at a magistrate's court for not paying her £0 road tax, as the form had gone to a previous address.

I've been reading this post over the last few days thinking how taxing a car is now so much simpler than it used to be, however that was until today....

Unbeknown to me until it was too late I have been guilty of driving an untaxed vehicle for the last few months. I've moved house recently but I was 100% sure (until today) that I had informed the dvla of my new address. Nope!

Whilst my wife was picking up the children from school the car was clamped for being untaxed! Argh.

Thankfully, it was a relatively quick fix to tax the car and pay the clamping fee (£100), however my wife and children were left stranded for a couple of hours. Needless to say I'm in the dog house and I've now set a reminder on my calendar to re-tax my car next year.

I'm now missing the old tax disc. A physical reminder in my windscreen may have prevented today.
Yes, I never minded a trip to the Post Office to buy the tax disc, and then I might manage a pint or two across the road in the Metropolitan Bar.

If you pay via DD there's no need to remember. Which is just as well with my memory.
You can't set a "DD" up for a £0 car tax bill unfortunately.

I find the simplest way is to set up a calendar reminder. My PC, smartphone, Alexa etc. calendars are all linked, so anything I set up, in one, is automatically added to all devices and will, hopefully, help me avoid any missed renewals.

Enjoying a drop of red.

I know that, but I assumed Mark had a conventional car. As the owner of quite a few petrol powered cars and motorbikes, some of which still require payment of road tax, I find DD a massive help, although ultimately they all get set as recurring reminders in Google Calendar

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
To the man who pulled out from Queensville Aldi right in front of me, causing me to stamp on my brakes and do an emergency stop, I salute your sheer level of stupidity. Yes I did leave my hand on the car horn for a long time and yes I did call you a dickhead - because you are.

The black helicopter has been circling the motorway at J14 for a good 10 mins, I'm guessing there's problems there....

I know these transporters cause some inconvenience, however I used to love seeing them as a kid. I still get excited about seeing them now.

It's nice to see evidence that something is still made in a one time high manufacturing industrial town.
Yes, it's nice having several adhesive products with the same ST16 3 postcode sector as us on them in the house but look closer and they're actually manufactured in Asia.
