What are we watching on TV?

I spent a good bit of my youth seeing the occasional transport go by, with real or practice nuclear weapons on. You never really knew when it was a real one, but people did seem a bit more professional sometimes. I always felt more at risk from British and US ones in the locality, than the...

    What's for dinner/tea?

You've ignored the Georgians. I...

Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

At one of the idiotic posh-boy schools that I went to it seemed to be necessary to say "vestibule" at least once a day. Maybe they're going to send you there?

    Drying firewood.

With the smoke from a smouldering bit of wood, I have revealed some considerable circulation in that area. I wrapped a substantial chain around the base of the flue to augment the output from that zone. The current 'remote fan' stirs air through the heated matrix of the chain. On my set-up, the...

    Drying firewood.

In recent years there has been a bit of a fad for stove fans. Powered by cells energised by the heat of the stove, 'for free', and gently stirring the air round the room. I bought a couple in Lidl earlier this year, one for me and one for one of the pubs. They turned out to be very well made...

What I Did This Weekend - In Pictures!

Those ones came from Kenya in 1966. My Dad was in Aden for a year and had a few weeks R&R in Kenya. The doctor in Ireland brought a Saudi student with him on a visit a few years back and he told her "Oh, I was in Yemen for a year once" - I could see that she thought this seemed a bit unlikely...

Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

I had the flu jab on Thursday and fell subject to a deep wave of fatigue on Friday afternoon, for 24 hours that I slept through half of. Back to being 'normally tired' now. I'll leave the Covid one until I head back west, to keep them all in one system.

1994 for me. Much more 'wooded' now, rather than the scrubland of then - I was becoming worried that I was on the wrong track when the first pool finally became visible.

I did the Fairoak Pools from Moors Gorse the other day - it's all grown up a lot since I was last there, in the last century.

    Italian Restaurant - Vivere.

My first attendance here for eleven years. Much the same as it has always been. I'm nicely full now. It was quiet enough, which suits me, but we were early starters at 6pm. Filling up as we left.

Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

I have survived being stabbed with my flu jab. Interestingly, my assailant apologised for the condition of the needle, not that it seemed any huge issue to me. He said that the needle for the private jabs was both sharper and thinner...
