Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

Interestingly I worked for BT (fairly newly privatised at that time) in 1987 for a year, and one of my jobs was to transport a surveyor for laying a fibre optic from Rugeley to the Potteries (via Hilderstone) by checking the cable runs and ducting over the whole distance. I'd drive the van, and...

    Today I saw...

I'm convinced the weather is going hat bat barmy. This just happened here: Bright sunshine, blue sky with cotton wool clouds, torrential rain all at the same time (it only lasted about two minutes, but I think the lawns are glad to see it.) I have come to a decision. I shall no longer pray...

Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

@staffordjas ... please don't take offence at this, it's a joke .... (ish.) If anything was ever going to happen, you know, like a giant incoming asteroid would peel off the Earth's crust, or the Sun going supernova and frying the entire solar system, or the Galactic Core exploding and...

    Today I saw...

Took a walk up by Tamar Lake reservoir this morning to see how it's fairing. We were promised a bit or rain but it failed to materialize where I am. We're now officially in drought, hosepipe ban coming in next week, water pressure lowered. As for the lake ?? .... it's getting close to empty.

Caption for this pix reads: Vickers Warwick C Mark I of 525 Squadron RAF Lyneham, Wiltshire c1943 I like this pix because it shows how you get a radio station into the narrow confines of a twin engine bomber.

What are we watching on TV?

Tonight I went into 'daft' mode which is something you have to do now and again. I switched over to 'Talking Pictures' and stuck with them without checking their programming ... just take what comes. So: I watched the Blue Lamp (1949) where Dirk Bogarde shoots Doxon of Dick Green. (I'm not...

Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

In this sort of heat you MUST wear a hat. Believe me, I've found that out the hard way !! And it doesn't matter a f*** what it looks like, as long as it covers yer bean. :rich:

    Holidays 2022.

My holiday this year will be a two day jolly with the Radio Officers Association at the end of September. (The timing between chemo's has worked out perfectly.) In a plush Bristol Hotel (so not far for me) with a trip to the Great Eastern Ship thrown in which I've never seen. Basically a lot...

What are we watching on TV?

Finished the first series of 'Cracker' on ITV Hub. Hadn't seen any of these although I know I've seen some of the following series. I'll give Jimmy McGovern his due .... when he writes a yarn it's like getting sucker punched in the gut several times over. He definitely writes from the gut...

Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

When the wolf pack eats, the fast eaters get the most. The slow eaters gradually fade away. This is Darwinism. (I am starting to wonder if this why most local restaurants wont let me in anymore. In fact they advise me to proceed forth in haste with reproduction in mind, or words to that...

Look Out Of Your Window Now! Astronomical events.

Yes I went out for look last night. The Perseids origin position is high in the NorthEast in the late evening (midnightish) but the full Moon is going to dim out the smaller incomers. It is known for fireballs, so you might get lucky. It's caused by the Earth passing through the trail of...

Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

I did look at that and I'd have to agree it is a badly sited crossing. Putting it on a totally blind corner like that. OK adults are likely to be aware of hidden oncoming traffic, but the thought of kids running along the front of the shops and out onto the road, perhaps not so much.
