They check and record ID but probably the standards of proof are very low Probably you can have it back if you can prove its yours. But who can do that? As long as the shop/staff don't believe it's stolen they're not breaking the law

I think these kinds of shops make it easy for burglars to quickly convert stolen goods into cash.
