    castletown

I moved to Somerset in December 2008, and finally sold my house in Castletown in May 2009. I miss the place. Castletown rocks, though as Andreas says, it's lost its best pub and its post office. :-(

    Memorable Pub Landlords

Bob Bell, at the Stafford Arms. A legend. Whatever happened to Elaine at the Rose & Crown? She was great, but disappeared all of a sudden.

    The Rant thread.....

Or everything in the subject field, and nothing in the body. I did a little technical support a while back, and the most annoying thing someone can do by email can do is delete all previous correspondence and replace it with 'tried that - didn't work'. When I rule the world, this will be...

I'll have a look at the weekend. Are you anywhere near Castletown?

Did you pay in cash? If not, your bank or credit card statement might be sufficient to get an exchange.

Try repairing your permissions. Go into Disc Utility, highlight the hard drive and take it from there.

Housing market / mortgage lender malarky

Also, mortgage repayments are higher than rents, so the more a bank does this, the lower its projected income.

Can I use any old keyboard & mouse with an eMac?

When will you get the eMac? Let me know how you get on with any old keyboard, and if there are problems, I'll see if I can find one.

Can I use any old keyboard & mouse with an eMac?

Any USB keyboard would do, but you MIGHT a keyboard eject button to get discs out of the optical drive. I believe the eMac has a tray loader, but I don't think there's a physical button on the drive to eject it. You can use any mouse, and to be honest, you're better off with a two-button model...

When I rule the world, emailing a support desk replacing previous correspondence with "tried that - didn't work" will be punishable by death.

    Wtf?!?!

I saw that on TV last night. 'wtf?' just about sums it up. It's quite the most bizarre behaviour imaginable.

Indeed. And a splendid bloke to boot.

    Jerningham Street!

Correction - what I thought was a second hole was actually a device to stop the sides caving in placed on the road. There's only one hole, but it's a whopper....

    Jerningham Street!

Nowhere near finished. They've barriered off most of that side of the street, parked an enormous digger there and dug a second hole, further down the road than the first. It must've been really bad...

    Jerningham Street!

That hole was chuffing deep. Sofa's pic shows the hole in the tarmac, but there was also a massive cavity under it. No wonder they had to dig up so much of the road to fix it. Cookie_Monster's explanation regarding water washing away the soil is probably correct. It certainly looked that way.
