Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

Yes, you are correct...I couldn't recall which shop it was.

What's going on with Staffordshire Police?

I would agree - there are lots of great bobbies and police staff trying to do their best under difficult circumstances. But as a member of the public, how do you access the service if you can't get them on the phone?

    Shire Hall To Reopen (?)

There's probably something in this - left brain, right brain thing. Politicians are in a competitive environment more may lean more to a sports culture than arts or leisure. Rowley Park is another example. It used to be a park with a sport facility...now the whole location is geared towards...

What's going on with Staffordshire Police?

I think the issue is access to the service at the moment. Like every other public service they are trying to do more (or as much) with less. However, they are in the main a reactive service and if you can't walk into a police station (because they close the front desks) and you can't call them...

What's going on with Staffordshire Police?

Not so...if you compared the stats across all 43 forces over recent times.

And the PCC - worst thing ever.

Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

Personally, I think the economic viability of the town centre is a priority...which is kind of the point of this thread.

Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

Yes, you are probably right. I'm not opposed to the revitalisation of town centres with 'above the shop' residential as long as there is a balance and some service/retail is retained. My concern is that with the relaxation of planning law we will see a proliferation of . flats in the centre and...

Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

There will always be a shopping list of priorities for public spending in good times and bad. I personally think that 20 years is a long time for nothing to be done.

Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

Yes, sadly I heard something similar. The more these Victorian buildings and left empty and allowed to deteriorate, the faster they will disappear from our town centre. What will we get in their place?

Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

Unfortunately, many of the properties in our town centre are owned by remote investors who think nothing of land banking or sitting on assets waiting for their capital appreciation. Without intervention properties like this will deteriorate event further and a continually be a blot on the landscape.

What's going on with Staffordshire Police?

I was interested to read that Staffordshire Police was opening the doors of it headquarters on 8 September for an 'Open Day'. What a shame that they aren't keeping more of their local stations open. We found a stolen handbag the other day. Tried to phone the non-emergency line - was on hold for...

Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

Interesting - gin is very 'de rigueur' at the moment....I was definitely ahead of this curve :P:pint:

I wonder what's going on with the store front changes near the old Accessorize?

Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

Not necessarily. I think that the situation lends itself to the problem. That end of town is getting a lot less footfall because of the number of empty shop units. If you are dependant on that flow of traffic just to entice someone through the door to purchase, it is going to have a massive...
