‘I can’t sleep’: the small business owners struggling to pay energy bills.

The last time we went to the Windmill chippy, Large cod was £7+ chips were £2.40 for a regular bag. If you add in a few extras, like a curry sauce etc, that would be in excess of £25, and that's just for the 2 of us.
I won't be having fish n chips for a while now.

Nope, suggesting us individuals do that so we can then still afford possibly to buy fish and chips.

I know it is a crisis, but people thought it was more important to remove the PM than deal with the crisis. Some even think a general election would be a good thing, except that would then mean another two months without a functioning government.
A general election at this point can only be a good thing. We don't have a functioning government now, we have a shitshow of morally vacuous barely humans only in it for themselves and their vested interests. :(

I get that chippie chips was always the preserve of the working classes, and still is tbh, but if you don't have the fish then chips are still remarkably good value. Given the perilous state of the oceans and the way industrial trawlers rape the seas us all going back to chips would be the right move!

A UK general election requires twenty five working days, so all can be done in five weeks.

If Johnson had actually resigned properly on July 7th, we could have had the election on August 11th, although the Scottish August Bank Holiday would have caused it to be on the 18th, I think.

Either way, we wouldn't need to be still sitting around waiting for these self-serving tossers to sort out their next cover story.

Surely whichever of them gets to be PM they will be gone by Christmas anyway
Then, we (or they) just go through this farce again.

Possibly with Johnson's name back on the ticket...

There is a suggestion that the Queen's current health means that the next PM will actually be appointed by her in Scotland, to avoid a journey down to London.

So you are not thinking about the OP, where there is a world in which you can't even f**king buy fish & chips?
I know it is a crisis...
That's not evident - if people can't afford to make fish 'n' chips, it matters not a f**king jot whether putting four f88king blankets on your bed has made you able to afford what is no longer f!!king there.

Are we getting this yet?

So what do you want me to do about it? the government has capped energy for business for 6 months. We could lift sanctions on Russian gas and be able to enjoy cheap fish and chips, at the cost of peoples lives in Ukraine.

For starters you could appreciate that this is an actual problem that can't be sorted with extra blankets...
the government has capped energy for business for 6 months.
... which rather suggests that the Government hasn't been listening to people who suggest it will be ok if we all use extra blankets. And has been listening to people that have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

In absentia of an /s i'm going to assume that this is that. You don't come across as a complete ****, but you're often half way there.

You do have to wonder what goes through the tiny little minds of the people who portray themselves as our betters.

I've just been informed that I have had a credit of £66 added to my energy account and that this will continue monthly, until there's been £400 added.

As much as I am always happy to get something back from the thieving gangsters that the UK has surrendered itself to, this does seem a bit odd.

Due to the fact that I use very little energy that is paid for via this account, I am now £647.07 in credit and my monthly payment has been £17.76 for the last couple of years.

It’s the energy refund paid to your electric account. It’s credited to your bank account monthly after your dd has gone out (£67/£66 for 6 months). I think with direct debit it doesn’t matter what your monthly payment is although I might be wrong.

I know what it is, it just seems completely crazy, but I suppose I should be used to that.

The whole pretend-market fiasco just looks even more stupid and simplistic.

They've given me almost four months' payments back and will repeat that every month for the next six months, whilst I already have three years of future overpayments tied up because they find it hard to cope with the reality of the preceding situation.

Ah right. I thought they’d just given you a credit to your energy account.
Won’t they give you a refund for the excess amount you’re in credit?

Ah, the old government taking more of your money, to give it back to you, for you to then have to give to the utility companies trick. And once the magic money tree is bare, they'll 'ask' you to feed it some more. And they like you to think that they're doing you a favour.

I am well aware of the delusional farce that this scheme is.
