A plumbing question

Okay, long story but I'm getting a shower that will have a 1/2" NPT thread for the shower head connection (I believe this is only used in the states). I want to be able to use a UK shower hose with it (1/2" BSP thread used almost all over the world - why do Americans have to be different!!).

Now, from googling around I know that the two are very similar although not the same. I have however found a comment somewhere, whereby somebody says that they still attach but should not be used for a pressure critical application (such as gas use). The person claimed that for the purposes of a showerhead, as long as a rubber washer is used, it will still work fine.

Does anybody have any experience of this or know much about these threads?

Buying a UK shower is not an option as this is a special outdoor propane shower (thinking of a garden shower to rinse off chlorine after using pool or hot tub). The things are made by several companies and are quite cheap to purchase. They connect to a propane cylinder and garden hose and hey presto! Unfortunately though they only ever seem to be fitted with NPT threads!! I want to be able to use UK shower heads with it.

Any advice appreciated :)

Sorry can't say I've ever come across anything but bsp. However again from googling it seems something like a shower hose that never has to hold pressure pressure should be fine.

You can also get npt to bsp adaptors
Yes I can only find them from the states on eBay (female npt to male bsp) so with postage it was ridiculous. I very much doubt it would be something plumbits would stock either is it

½NPT and ½BSP are very close - both are 14TPI and very similar diameters - you might get away with it without an adaptor- the hose will have little pressure in it and you might find that the taper "bites" before the washer seals - just fling another washer in...

Since posting I've found someone saying the exact same thing elsewhere. Will let you know how I get on :)
