Wait, so does anyone have the device? I have had emails, confirmations, etc, etc. However, my emails say it will be delivered by the end of June. Tek do you already have one of these amazing little machines? And if so where is mine!!!!!!!111

Well, at the moment its just testing and stuff, and getting it running the various additional software I need (ssh is disabled by default, which was annoying. and tightvncserver needed adding). Output through composite video is painful to look at on my ancient Nokia portable TV, so the vncserver is a must. I need to find a wifi dongle that works properly from boot, fix the bizarre hardware bug in my home-made Arduino motor control shield, and somehow squeeze the whole lot into a 12" toy dalek.
The idea is basically a web controlled wireless dalek with camera, microphone and speakers. but no death ray.

I'm starting to think I should change your custom title to "Best Geek on The Forum". ;)

Actually, that would be a good category for The Forum Awards!

So. Made up my custom 8gh SD image (SSH/tightvncserver/ftp/ftpd/wifi drivers/apache2/php5) and made some spare cards.
VAX3900 successfully emulated, AberMUD run, Samba server tested, Arduino connected and tested. As a minute server it is fantastic. If it shot cigarettes out of the RCA socket and widdled Bitter out of the HDMI port it would be perfect.

This month's "Linux Format" has the Raspberry Pi Debian on the cover disc, which saves a 400+MB download, and also has a useful 4 page "Raspbrry Pi: Getting Started" article

Good info. Is it cribbed from the official site, or is it actually usable by a normal human?

Looks fairly straightforward for a reasonably normal computer user. E.G. recommends http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals#SD_cards for a list of compatible SD cards (site also lists lots of other compatible hardware) then describes how to install operating system onto card using dd under linux and as an alternative says "If you don't have a machine running Linux, you won't have access to dd, the tool we used to copy the operating system to the Raspberry Pi's SD card. You can still copy the operating system to the card using a programme called Win32DiskImager ..." and tells you where to download this programme & how to use it. Then takes you fairly gently through getting it to start up & the graphical interface working

they had the pi on sunday brunch on C4 this morning.. didn't really show it off though - as usual it was just The Tim Lovejoy Show, and he spent too much time dicking about and not understanding what it was to be useful or information in any way

If anyone still wants one for the normal price, I still have a spare code. The code alone is selling on ebay for £20 in some cases, pi's are selling at £60! I will however happily give the code to any forum member that honestly has a use for a pi, other than to sell on. I've still not had a proper play with the new tablet, let alone time for pi!

The pi is still planned for integration into my pond, unfortunately we had several weeks of gash weather which put the project above schedule. And now its beer garden weather, you can't win! :strange:

Still not seen much about cool things being done with these... any links?

Also, why do they not make a case to sell them in, surely risking damage by not?

Pi to be sold in Maplin soon (according to the letter I got this morning). So I shall have more Pi and Tek can have his back (though you can have it back anytime, well as soon as I work out which one it is).
