Wish I could get back into running, the old knees just won't let me do it nowadays! So jealous of all of you getting out there . I was a founder member of Stafford Harriers and used to love the club runs and the social side of it as well. But buggered my knees up racing up to marathon distance. Lots of those who just ran at a slower steady pace at the time are still to be seen running around the streets.

Keep up the running @kyoto49 , and well done on the 10k . Hope you manage to get into it @wildwood . May see you passing me as I walk around the ring-road sometime :)

Thanks. I'm so loving my running, and the friends I'm making!

Started talking about this in the park run thread, but it makes more sense here.

Tried the couch to 5k app, didn't get on with it. Was good to get me started initially, but I found the whole stop-start annoying. I get it's meant for absolute couch potatoes, but I'd not run since I was at school and still thought it a bit tame - I'm in my 40s now! So on Tuesday I just thought sod it, lets go. Headphones on, did 5k stopping once to tie my shoelace. Went out again Thursday, 5k again nearly 3 minutes quicker. Back out yesterday (after a massive tequila session!) and my pace was actually better again if I hadn't stopped to answer a call I'd been waiting on. So yeah, I seem to be enjoying it! Not sure I could do this whole running with other people though? I like to have loud music on, I don't want to talk. I'm using it as an escape, I completely zone out.

But anyway. There has been talk of the 10k, now thats double my current distance. I read somewhere that you should only ever increase your distance gradually, would you say this is the case? I also can't run regularly, some weeks I have loads of time and others I don't get a single evening spare. Also I see headphones are banned, has anyone used those bone vibration headphones for runners?

Soo.......

Ran til June, injured my leg. Limped for two months and have literally only just got out again. I ran last week and did 5k, today was only my second post injury run and I did my first ever 10k. Happy is an understatement, never imagined I was capable!

That's a really good time too.

Thanks, wasn't sure what I could do after such a long break but I'm very happy with the result. Was aiming for under an hour, but realised I could hit 50 minutes without too much extra work :D

I've managed a 60 minute 10k but not sure I can speed it up. The OH, however, did 41 minutes in the Stafford 10k and was disappointed...

I was at the finishing line to cheer on a mate, was amazed at some of the times! I'd be ecstatic at 41 minutes but guess it depends on your usual pace.

Has anyone ever used those bone conduction earphones? I need to vary where I run, at present I stick to the isobel trail but need to start venturing further. I need music though, and am not comfortable blocking out everything if near roads.

Or you could run the Isobel trail into town and then pick it up again on the other side of the Doxey Road and continue the "Tek-no traffic" tunes virtually to infinity, well Gnosall at least :)

Still need hill training admittedly, but it's a start.

A week ago today I ran my first 10 mile, yesterday I ran my first half marathon, today I can't walk downstairs! My own fault, I did a 5k between the two and knew my leg wasn't right, but went out Sunday anyway. After the first kilometer it was OK so I just kept going, started getting twinges at about 15k but thought I'd be OK. Limped the last maybe 2k, just because I'm a stubborn fecker and wanted to hit the half marathon mark! Did it in 1:43:10, more than happy for a first attempt especially as the floods meant I changed my planned path a few times and had to turn back comletely at one point an climb an embankment on the isobel trail at another. Gonna rest for a week but I want 5 minutes off that time within the month, I'm rather enjoying this running lark :D
