Having been out of the domestic market for a while I just wondered where you would look for tree surgery work? I concentrated on domestic work for many years and relied on word of mouth and the old Yellow pages then went into commercial and local authority work.

I now need to get back into more domestic stuff as LA and commercial just isn't there. Yellow pages excepted which form of advert would you turn to to find a suitable trader? Thanks in advance.

Google.

Get a website, get a web presence. I don't EVER even glance at Yellow pages, that's what Google is for. lol

Ade makes a good point. Does ANYONE still look at that old yellow fellow??

Is it the kind of thing that would be likely to get any work from a leaflet drop? I ask as I'll be starting one very soon in Stafford and my prices are quite impressive including print and delivery (as a guide £200 for 5000 colour A5 leaflets, printed AND delivered by myself personally) - just 4p per door! Most delivery agencies charge higher figures than that when you are supplying the leaflets yourself.

Thought about a leaflet drop but decided I'd have to be specific about where they were dropped. ie they'd need to have a tree or trees in their garden and that probably rules out paying someone to drop them. Could be interested in your leaflets though.

Consider S.E.O. (Search Engine Optimization). My websites were once never traceable on google, but now rank quite highly. I can't be sure what he charges now, but the forum's very own MyCult is the man in the know and I can personally recommend his services.

I think we find ourselves in a transitional phase, whereby the web is the first point of call for many; more traditional means are the mainstay for many.

I don't envy anybody having to make that kind of choice in the circumstances, but a web presence is (shurely?) more likely to have the upper hand in the long run?

Regarding the leaflet drop, I'm afraid you would never find a delivery agency that could act in such a specific manner. In these circumstances I would ask myself something like "what percentage of homes may have trees?" and then calculate a possible hit ratio. If it were around 10%, then i'd think of it as 40p per drop and ask myself if that is likely to be worthwhile.

If you just wanted leaflets printed for your own use / delivery etc., from your own supplied artwork, then I would charge £100 for 5000.

Today was the first day since the 'transition' that something 'pon 'ere that i was looking for was in the top ten - pop pickers - of the :google: chart - MyCult was my first thought of why this might be so...

Not that i know anything about the dark arts 'n' all.

No, MyCult hasn't provided his excellent SEO services (simply because I haven't wanted to trouble him with it as I thought Google would do it 'organically' a bit quicker) since our upgrade, hence why we have fallen in the rankings. :(

As Withnail alludes to, however, at one time if you googled "[anything] in stafford" then Stafford Forum was amongst your first results, if not the top one. :) This will become the case again over time, as Google finds it way way around our new site and the hundreds of thousands of messages contained herein.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like to advertise here; I'm sure Forumites would rather see local people advertise instead of the current 'faceless' Google adverts that are currently in place.
