Advice required on picking up GCSE results please

Can anyone please tell me whether GCSE Results have to be collected from the School on the day they come out in August, or are they posted out to home addresses or able to be accessed on line?

Son has just plonked a Sixth Form Prospectus in front of me that has been lingering in his schoolbag all weekend.

I'm in a panic now as have discovered that we are on holiday on the date the GCSE results come out.

Thanks.

Never thought about the results when booking the holiday. (And of course it's all MY fault for booking up ! )

Tell Son he could always miss the holiday? 16 is old enough to be left alone, let him choose whats important to him rather than give you grief? My mum booked a hol during my GCSE exams, didn't bother me.

We only booked the holiday on those dates in the first place because he'd arranged to meet up again with some mates he'd made this last summer. Paying extra for him to have his own room this time and costing a fortune in the school holidays . Would quite happily have have left him at home while we went away in the cheaper school term time!

Just another thought.. you may be able to have someone collect from school on his behalf on the day rather than waiting for the post.. he'd have to sign something and they could give you a call with the (hopefully!) good news

Did wonder about that - I'll give the school a call in the morning to enquire if that's possible. Don't know whether he'd want anyone looking at his results before him,but at least he would have them there ready for when we get home rather than relying on the post to arrive.

Hi you can either get your son to write a letter confirming it is ok for someone (write their name in the letter) to collect them or you can give the school a stamped addressed envelope and they will post them out - they don't automatically post them though unless your take a stamped envelope in.

Thanks - Think I'll go through the route of asking someone else to collect for me. (We can't trust our post as so much has gone missing as we know to).

As son has got internet on his phone I was hoping we could have got them up on line whilst away. (When I googled results I found one article about pupils hacking into the school system and finding results the day before they officially went out in one school)

You could try a google search on: "edexcel results plus" without the quotes and then click on: "Register for online results" There is information there but the important bit appears to be: "If you're a student who wants to register to view your results online, it is up to your school or college to decide whether they allow you to do so."

Good luck...Ecker

Enjoying a drop of red.
Just ask the school to post them out. You could also ring the school when the rush has died down, say midday onwards and find them out over the phone.

Thanks Folks.

After spending all morning on the phone I've managed to move the same holiday forwards a bit so that we will be back for the Results day. :)

Those results had better be worth it now!

As someone who left high school recently (well, 2008) and didn't give a crap about his results (and can safely say to this day that was a good choice, hurrah for skill based success!) I decided not to bother collecting them. Turns out I needed them in late 2009, so I went back and asked for them and they provided me with them. They (at least in my case, Rising Brook) keep them for around 2 years, at which point they "dispose" of them (shredding, I assume) but you can always get a replacement from the exam board for a fee of £60 (I think it was £60... I'm not entirely sure). If you can't be there on the day no need to panic, they don't disappear :) You do need the certificates for college/sixthform though, from what I was told (although possibly a lie) without the certificates there is no way for your results to be easily verified by any institution (eg: college or sixthform), the actual certificates are the only thing that counts as proof.

I don't believe you can find GCSE results online, unless they've changed it recently, and if they have it'll be unique to exam board

I left school in 1995 - a couple of years ago the students I enrolled in college were exactly half my age. That smarted a little lol

I only finished uni this year, and I never had to show proof of my GCSE or A-level results to anyone - not even when applying to universities! It seems they're rather trusting! (Or they have direct contact with the exam boards so know you're results...)
