airbnb opinions?

Never used it before but looking for a place in Amsterdam, so many fakes! No obvious way to report them either? Anybody use it?

Not personally, but know someone who swears by the site. Don't think he's had any problems.

I've used it to visit Spain and Poland without issue. Great way to see a city without the inflexibility of hotel stays.

Amsterdam in particular I know has big problems with AirBNB due to local renting and noise restrictions, that might be why there's so many fakes.

Booked a hotel through expedia, then got a call from my bank. I booked 2 rooms, they put through 2 identical transactions, but for a bit more than half the total cost (by about £70!). Had a message to call them, but I don't speak Dutch.....

I do. Had no problems with our place in Toronto we used last year and my sister uses it alot. Rules to ALWAYS follow:

Only deal via Airbnb, including all comms, contact etc, always!!! And incase I haven't made my point, always pay through AirBNB, then, if it's a scam they hold your money, not the scammer. Don't get tempted to pay outside of Airbnb on the promise of cheaper rates!

Reviews, reviews reviews, It's hard to falsify 100's of reviews from people who have stayed in other AirBNB properties around the world!

It's easy to report potential fakes once you've logged in...........

No, I just got a hotel instead. Amsterdam was very busy for when we wanted to go and all the new ones appearing looked dodgy!

This is the life we live now, things are only free at a cost.
