Ehh! Time flies when! 30 years ago when Argentinians were invading and capturing the Falklands/Malvinas I was at University in Sheffield, 'The Venerable Mrs Seed' was doing her final year of A Levels. The invasion of the islands was being remembered today in Alrewas, as were the service staff and civilians who perished, and wounded, on both sides.
Mrs seed was a bit perturbed as she thinking my friends and I might be enlisted!:lorks: There was a fella in my Hall of Residence who had been on a ship the year before that was destroyed in the battles, (Sheffield I think!) I was on a school cruise a few years before on The SS Uganda, and that was requisitioned as a floating hospital, (hope the cateering had improved!:barf:) I have a few other Falklands connections, what were you doing 30 yrs ago? (You can tell he's looking for work from home can't you! Ed)

30 years ago i was in primary school, or first school as it was called back then. I mean no disrespect, please bear in mind i was 7, but i was bored stupid with all the extra news reports and the fact that my parents kept watching it. I didn't understand and was quite cross with those ''argies'' for causing such a fuss.
These days naturally i understand much more and can see what it was all about.

Was working down t'pit, used to get updates of anything notable happening on the tannoy from the control room on the surface.
On a different but related note, the National Arboretum is well worth going to see. I have done this bike run http://www.rttw.org/ every year since it started.

I was just a kid 30 years ago, but I do remember my dad (who was worse than me for taking the piss) putting "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" on a pub jukebox in Penrith.

Ah the miners strike, I used to thumb to and from Sheffield, Scarborough, and Stafford to visit the Venerable Mrs Seed and get home. I took a 'Support The Miners' from a minor who gave me a lift, who didn't think I would have to wait long for lifts displaying that! The amount of traffic between Yorkshire and the North Midlands, and particulalry South Yorkshire and Littleton at Cannock, meant he was proved write! Speaking of which Ricky Tomlison is on something on the tele soon, talking about the time he was imprissioned for picketing. He of course, spent time in Stafford, and in his autobiography Ricky (Highly Reccomended!:scouse: Sorry got no further info' but will have to find something out about the TV prog'!)
