For those with the inclination (and technology) you can download Android Pay from the Google App store... It's their alternative Apple Pay and allows you to make contactless card payments on your phone (so long as you have a NFC enabled phone or NFC/Bluetooth add-on).

Used mine today in the new card park in town....

Have used it a couple of times; works well.

Problem is not enough places accept it yet and my preferred card provider doesn't support it yet.

You do not have to unlock the iPhone or Watch so it's a step less.

On iPhone you just double press the Home button with your finger registered to TouchID, Apple Pay appears and payment is made. On Watch, you double press the side button, Apple Pay appears and payment is made.

And you don't have to tap the contactless pad with any contactless system, only hold it near. I wouldn't tap anything with my iPhone or Watch and risk damaging them.

No it isn't. To unlock Watch you have to tap the screen and enter a passcode (if set).

It's a double press of the side button to activate Apple Pay. Watch doesn't get unlocked when you use Apple Pay, neither does iPhone.

Well of course... I've only used the phone once to pay so I probably don't have to "tap".... In any the phone only cost £100 and has a case on it so it's not an issue....

In reality, there's little difference to the 2 systems....

The big difference is that Google get your details and know exactly what you spend your money which will probably mean even more targeted advertising from them.

You don't have to tap your phone.

If you have a finger print reader you can just swipe your print for it to work.

Does the sainted Apple not store your details then?

Basically they are both the same way of doing the same thing, can't see the need to defend one or the other really...

I'm not defending either system. I know that card details on stored on a secure enclave within iPhone. What Apple sees I don't know but I trust them not to share my data compared to Google. As you know, with Google you are the product as they want to advertise to you.
