Another Leader Gone

Enjoying a drop of red.
A sad loss to the citizens of the borough, as the greatest exponent of how local government can benefit an individual, steps down.

I don't think it will be long before someone steps up to the plate though, whatever there political colour might be.

A tough act to follow. Where will they find someone equally modest and un-hypocritical by next week?

In all fairness he is right. There is plenty going that is good around stafford whatever you think mps and councillors SBC has its sh*t in order when it comes ton finances, unlike every other council in the midlands. Ironically the cuts are going to come from ward councillors and rightly so. Too many councillors sit in office earning a pay check with little to do and not having a clue about the area they oversee. you only have too look at the county council. You only have to look at cllr Lawrence shutting libraries, kids centres and youth clubs because people are not using them, simply because time has moved on yet the model used has not.
too many councilors without a clue, lets rid some more please.

In what way is he right, precisely? Apart from anything else, he seems to forget that both county and borough councils are partly responsible for what went wrong with the hospital. The boast that, "At my instigation the council had a full debate on Monday..." shows how deluded he is. Monday was a waste of taxpayers' funds. Whose instigation was it for NOT holding full council meetings for four months last year, when it might have made a difference?

A slightly different view of the town by Alderman Mike Poulter MBE.

" Hence in Stafford and elsewhere we see vacant offices, empty, almost derelict shops and a road system in chaos. Privatisation and downsizing still threaten our hospital, GPs, health and social care services. Our university has vanished and Stafford Prison will be closed in five years with inmates and staff moved to Wrexham."

Although the bit about the prison is open to debate - :blah:

Decisions on prison capacity are reviewed frequently taking into account population forecasts, sentencing behaviour and other factors. However, the Justice Secretary has made it clear that there are currently no plans to close any adult male prisons in the foreseeable future

And will the new leader be the current councillor who oversees leisure?

Lets all sit down, make ourselves comfy, order copious amounts of popcorn and watch the Sport and Politics thread
