Anyone DIY minded? Hot water issue...

We've got no hot water. If I stick the boiler on manual it will warm up, but when left on the usual timed cycle it's going fridge-cold. This is since the disruptions to the water supply, so I'm wondering if there might be a valve stuck open that's forcing more cold water into the system somewhere (although there's nothing coming out of the overflow). It's a gas boiler in the kitchen, with a hot water tank in the upstairs airing cupboard, with a header tank, and another tank in the loft.

Any ideas before I phone the EMERGENCY ONLY (their caps) letting agent's holiday number?

Sounds like a capictor may of gone on the board i say that as its the most common part that goes, but going as i just get this kind of query everyday without ever touching a boiler asking me to take it apart i a different story, I am good with electronics to the point i can make a circuit board, (god forbid now i am going to get asked this even more during work hours) On my own honesty I have never taken a boiler fully apart to see where the circuit board is. Guess i could look to see where my board is but good chance yours could be somewhere different.

I will have a look if in doubt an not charge anything for advice i do have tools lol

If your boilers firing that's not going to be the problem. Either your programmer or motorised valve is broken. From what you've said above it sounds like your programmer isn't sending out a live on it's hw on when in timed mode.

I agree, this sounds like the exact same problem that happened to my Honeywell ST6400C programmer. The permanent backup battery that's soldered onto the board leaked inside and eventually the timer didn't work at all as the memory kept being lost.

They're easy to replace with the newer ST9400C programmer which just clips on to the connector. I got mine on eBay for under £35.

I'm not sure we have an electronic programmer, but rather a mechanical timer on the wall rather like the ones you'd attach to a plug socket. It may still have some electronic component of course, but I'd guess the system is 70s or 80s from the look of it. The boiler is definitely firing fine, the radiators are all working and the water is heating up when it's on, it's just that it's going cold again. I'll just live with it until Tuesday and then give the letting agents a call I guess.
