Since our bid to have an official Stafford version of Monopoly failed (see HERE), I've just found this Make your Own-opoly which you can customise as you wish! It's only £20....

:stafford:
yeah, i was gonna post that last week, but after reading a few online reviews i didn't bother.. apparently the quality is well cuffy.. hasn't even got proper monopoly pieces, just 6 identical plastic counters, and the rules have been simplified (no buying of houses/hotels, etc.).. guff!

That's a shame...if the quality of the board and cards was good then you could easily substitute the placcy counters for other things; I don't think anyone still has all of the original pieces for standard Monopoly! As for the rules, use the old 'uns....

Scrabble. I enjoy playing, but in an informal, and definitely not too competative kind of way. When someone gets out the official book, and starts using loads of words that never see the light of day in normal discourse, it takes the edge right off the fun. It quickly becomes a test of who has remembered more of these obscure words.

The venerable Mrs Seed and I play our rule, that if you cannot actually say what the word means, you cannot have it. We cheat of course and make up meanings for stupid random groups of letters, but thats part of the fun, when we are well into our second bottle of wine.

eh? that's like saying playing chess with someone who has memorised established & successful strategies is a bit off colour! surely trumping your opponent with obscure words is half the fun??

We're fairly regular players of monopoly, scrabble and also that rather amusing card game, sh*thead! Always great for giggles...

So feel free to challenge our knowledge of the Queen's, Wookie :)

Having just posted this photo of my boardgame collection on another forum, I thought I'd share it with this one. It might bring back a few memories.

The bottom game (the one under Kingmaker) is Diplomacy.

When they told me I couldn't use swear words I gave up. That was half my vocabulary gone !!!🤪

Edit - Response to a crazy spam post suggesting that you need to claim that 'aura' is an obscure Maori word - removed.

I'm actually glad for the thread resurrection as im getting in to board games!

We played a lot as kids, monopoly, cluedo, mousetrap etc but the good games all need more than 2 people so we've been xcluded for the last few years.

On Xmas family holiday just gone we played, Pictionary, Articulate and Scotland Yard and had wonderful fun!

So I'm investing in some games when I see them in the charity shops. Only picked up Carcassonne for a couple of quid so far. Still waiting to find Othello and backgammon!

Any suggestions? What's everyone's favs..?

Articulate is my go to, but we recently got Ticket to Ride and it is a a lot of fun. Rapidough and Rummikub are decent if you can find them.
Aldi in Stafford had a variant of Rapidough in before Chrimbo but don't know if they still do.

Great game as long as you don't have cheaters who nick all the dough playing 😂😂

We like Articulate too.
Although not a board game, Cards Against Humanity is brilliant.
