Anyone use a hive?

So I finally got my hive wired up. So far it seems great, tells me the exact temperature and logs it constantly. The schedule is easy to set, it all seems so simple.

Except for one major flaw, it doesn't seem to tell me when the heating was on or off! Surely I'm missing something, why on earth would they hide this? Can anyone tell me where to look?

This hive image looks like it has an on/off indication on the right hand side above the actual temperature.

This is what bugs me. It blatantly knows when it is on or off as it controls the damn thing, but the reporting is very lacking. It's all very good telling me exactly what temp my living room was to 0.1c accuracy but what I really care about is how often and when the heating actually goes on. They don't even let you see the scheduled temps against the actuals, as this data is so easy to obtain the suspicious bastard in me thinks maybe it's because it doesn't work as planned. I shall be monitoring it carefully!

I've also just taken meter readings, as I'm curious to see if I get a drop in bills. I insulated the loft last year but the stat was so crap it turned radiators on at random. Now I allegedly have more control so hopefully will see a reduction.

I 'look after' an empty house, where I have the heating set to come on at 6C, via a plug-in electronic thermostat, with the timer set on "24 hours", so that it will fire whenever the thermostat is tripped.

In order to get an idea of how long the heating was running for between my visits, I ran it from cold for an hour and checked how much gas the meter registered in that time. By a fluke, in this case, it came out as very nearly exactly a hundred cubic feet for the hour, so the meter readings essentially give you the time it was burning for directly.

Mine is Set by default to warm 7 degrees every now and again when the weather is cold enough to burst the pipes . i found a big reduction in my heating bills over the past year or so.
ive found it to be pretty spot on , i check it alongside the gas/electric digital meter provided by british gas .
I get a email monthly to tell me the average over the month in comparison to other Hive users in the area .
My phone tells me when it was last activated as well as the hive lighting and other sensors.

It can be a little lacking in info i agree , but ive had no issues and wouldnt be without mine now.

i love the fact i can tell it to come on and set the temperature before i get out of bed using my voice and can even operate it remotely from anywhere :)

Ah sorry I thought you meant you couldn't see the on/off indication.

Just found this on google but not sure whether it shows what you're looking for.

  • Tony, not sure what you are doing wrong. I do not use windows pc, but it should be the same a a Mac and Safari, navigate to www.hivehome.com, then select the person icon at the top, which is not visibleon iPhone, but is on iPad in landscape mode, this will take you to the login page. Enter your email and password used to set up the Hive account and you should go to your online dashboard. Select heating circle ( I do not see thermostat, just heating, hot water and other Hive devices, just like the app dashboard), this takes you to a page that shows the thermostat info, just like the app, but also showing your schedule and scrolling down further the temperature profile.

I can see both of those, but the heating profile only shows me what the temperature was, not if the heating was actually turned on. So if you look at the below the only reason I know that the temperature isn't rising because of the heating is that I have it set to 16c so it shouldn't come on yet.

I've had mine for a couple of years and I must admit I've never even looked for an on/off history; I'm happy that I've got my heating profile reasonably well fine tuned by now and I've got a smart meter that tracks my electricity and gas usage.

I've added a few lights, sockets and cameras and, recently, I upgraded my hub. I also linked it to my Alexa so that I can voice control everything. Most of the time it works really well but, on a couple of occasions, Hive have had a problem at their end. I think on one occasion the system was down for the best part of a day. Absolute disaster; it meant having to press a switch to turn the lights on and off .

Pretty sure you can get this from a simple Rest call.

Will check, my laptop since I’ve played with both nest and hive apis. Do you have postman installed ? A simple post with authentication token will yield a decent JSON object with a lot of details.
