ASDA introducing Pay and display parking

Really?

They should look at the very clever system that Tesco uses in Walsall- hardly any signs in the car park other than large "2 Hours free Parking (with minimum spend) " ones. Very small signs in the car park saying £70 charge. Only when you are in the shop is the parking explained - so if you just park and wander you do get charged. They use plate recognition when you drive in and, if you spend £5 you automatically get a validation code on your receipt. Tap that code and your reg number into the machines inside the shop entrance, confirm the picture taken of the car coming in is yours and your parking is sorted.
They must catch loads of people who just drive in and park, then wander into town. Unless you know the system is there you would never know.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I work not far from there, and if I needed a trip into Walsall I'd park there, and sometimes nip into Tesco as their World Foods aisle is great in that branch. I just don't visit Walsall any longer.

Somebody I know just happened to mention that, under the duress of the roadworks and the weather on Thursday, they had defaulted and ended up shopping in Asda. I mentioned the new car park arrangements and they had completely missed all the info on this, but did get away with it unscathed.

Seems odd to me that they stop charging at 6pm, considering that's when a lot of people park there to go to the gym! Could be a nice little extra earner!

I don't see why .... the gym's car park is entirely free after 6pm

Additionally, if you are a gym member and ask at the front desk, they give you a note for your car to give you free parking any time of the day.

Truth be told, I'm more tempted to park in the gym and head to asda - especially on a sunday when that car park is free parking all day. :P

Is it free on Sundays still at the gym? I haven't parked there for a while but the Town centre council carparks I use (not the multi storey or riverside) charge on Sundays now (£1 all day??)

Glad you said that ,Ive always assumed the normal council carparks are free on sundays, except the riverside multi-storey and guildhall one :hmm:

Ah right, thanks. Are carparks like Wilkos still free on sundays ? (Used to park at asda and shop there, but they have lost my custom now !)
