I think the Grapes was closed this evening (Not sure if it is open 7 days but was shut around 8pm).. would be devastating to hear as it's probably the only music venue in Stafford now.. Coach and Horses was also closed but I assume that was just as it was past last orders..

There has been a bit of talk over the past couple of days about two pubs in the town centre closing the doors. I don’t really want to spread rumours and I can’t see anything on here to suggest it’s true so I won’t say the names of them just yet but I will be disappointed if one of them is closing, not so much for the second.

i wonder if supermarkets (Morrisons is on it's way, blar blar blar) will start having Public Houses built within/on their premises!

one stop shop stop shop shop stop

Whilst it's not surprising these places close if the latest (bloke-down-the-pub told me) news is correct, it's particularly gutting when a favourite boozer of yours closes.

I support minimum alcohol pricing, provided that it doesn't push bitter over three quid. Maybe then the chains* that are able currently to buy on-the-turn beer and knock it out cheap quickly might take a hit for once.

*no, not that The Chains (or any of the later incarnations)**
**I must put more footnotes into my posts.

It seem strange to me to loose three the same day.
Well they're all owned by the same people, so it would make sense if the money ran dry, they'd all go.
They're not all ran by the same people, where did you get that information from.

Regarding The Bear Grill, Chris Lewis will put us straight on that one if he has time to pop on the Forum and this thread inparticular.

...hopefully to say it ain't so.

Shame, they're all old buildings and with that all have the chance of standing unoccupied for years!

I think they mean the 'Bear and Pheasant' in the Friars, rather than the 'Bear' and a 'Pheasant'....

No one has mentioned the Bear Grill. The Bear & Pheasant is owned by Eddie who has the Grapes and the Coach and Horses.

Where does my information come from? I've played gigs for him in the Bear & Pheasant and the Grapes, and seen it first hand.
