Picked up 5KG of Chicken breasts from the Butcher at Amerton Farm today...
We got a load of meat from there a few weeks ago when they had some special offers on, nearly filling our freezer. The chicken breasts are huge as well. Considerably bigger than what you usually get in supermarkets. The sirloin steaks were probably the best bargain, 10 steaks for £20

Enjoying a drop of red.
Was just in asda at the right time, the raiders were at the veg section and I got the meat section to myself at first! Then they realised and one woman took 10 large turkeys...
Big woman was she?

Or from a local restaurant. Serving up out of date Turkey tomorrow. Beware...

I did think this too, probably say it's chicken? Must have been a good 50kg of turkey!

I got a 2kg beef Wellington for a fiver, and a big posh pork joint for 2 quid, plus a few bits for my mum as well. Lots of mash with brie in for 10p too, and quite a few other bits.

There seems to be 2 very distinct sort of people in the reduced section, ones who are polite and offer to pass you things if they're closer and ones who will knock you over to snatch a cheap sausage from the poor staff members hands.

I remember watching watching one of the Lynton Tavern (old Crossbow) manager/landlord in KwikSave buying a shed load of reduced out of date crisps & snacks for the pub.

When freezing it last night I realised that beef Wellington was reduced from 58 quid! They had several, was weird the turkey lady and most others tbh were avoiding them, I was very tempted to buy 2 as nobody else seemed interested but don't really have the freezer space.

Frank Carey ?
No it was after him. I used to work in the Crossbow in the Frank Carey days (or colonel Carey / Major Carey whatever it was he called himself  ).
Although he was such a skinflint "Ma'aaaam that's half a new pence you have just cost me :blah:" if the slightest bit got spilt overe whist pouring. I wouldn't be suprised if his "time ladies and gentlemen please , except for your pasties and pies should you require them" were reduced ones at the end of their shelf life. (My brother was their milk man and it was hard work for him getting the money for the milk & eggs each week as he wouldn't cough up!)

Dave and Julie Alcock are the only ones I knew after Carey.
"that's half a new pence you have just cost me" as if he hadn't got a military pension as well as the decent living that could be made from a pub fifty years ago.

Just walked into Cash Converters and spotted a Bissel Spot Clean Pet Pro (RRP £170-odd)

£9.99, asked what the catch was and apparently it was just dirty really.

Just cleaning it up but all seems to be in working order, I just need to source the other head for it now

Reverse boast today…

Bloody Greggs on the high street was already closed a good 15-20 minutes before closing time today, which wouldn’t be so annoying if I didn’t have two of the rather hard to get Magic Bags set to be collected from there between 8 and 8.30 (closing time)

So no bargain for me today

This will have very little real cost - the dishes are the lids of many coffee jars, the plywood is an offcut from the recent shelves. There will be a base, to stop the dishes falling through, but that will be a piece of the old hardboard ceiling, from before I put the current 'proper' one up.

I've developed a habit of using the lids to contain odd bits during a job, but I only need a couple of empty ones for that function at any one time, so I decided to make two trays like this. They will, eventually, slide on rails below the bottom shelf, taking up very little space and being useful to store odd bits and so that I know where an empty dish will be at any time.

The glass jars get recycled, but the lids seemed a 'handy size' and I've retained a good few of them now.

They have a waxed cardboard insert, but I remove them and they get used to start the fire.
