Over the last few years the Baswich Community Group has discussed ideas to improve the Yelverton Park area for the benefit of the community and for local wildlife. In parallel with our plans, the children of Leasowes Primary School Eco Committee approached the council asking whether there could be wider community involvement in the ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ project which they are taking part in at the school. We therefore decided to work together as part of her late Majesty’s Jubilee project, to plant trees for the future in our local area and enhance the local environment. Other local schools are also taking part and are planting trees on their school grounds this autumn. Our primary school children were offered the opportunity to enter a competition to design a wildlife space at Yelverton Park, with ideas from the winning designs being incorporated into our collective vision. The plan is principally for two wildflower beds with trees to be planted at the bottom end of the park, away from the football space and the children’s play park, so that all existing users of the park are still able to use the space as they have been. Further trees will be planted to replace those recently lost in the dry weather.

The tree and wildflower planting will be funded and maintained by Forest of Mercia, and they have also been involved in taking soil samples and site viewing to ascertain the most suitable species for the area. Further funding is available from Veolia for elements requested by the children such as a bug hotel. On an annual basis we will cut the wildflowers back for the winter season to make way for new flowers in the spring, and hope to have an annual working party of volunteers to help with this task.

We hope that the idea of well-managed, flourishing wildflower beds on Yelverton park will be something that appeals to residents and wildlife alike, and once in place, plans are already afoot to try to improve the other spaces on Yelverton Park including the children’s playpark and football equipment, so watch this space!

They shouldn't be, in my opinion, but the wording does not exclude those vehicles from the ban.
The order relates to the Road, mobility scooters and pushchairs users generally use the pavement. Perhaps SBC could word this orders better, but let’s not read to much into it.

I can assure you they are Not banned, and as the road Will be closed, users will be safer at our event because of it.

If they're going to issue these things as a pompously worded proclamation, it would, indeed, be nice if they were to accurately say what they really mean, and not leave it up to people to guess. If there is no motor traffic, other people will tend to occupy and use the road.
