Please don't oppose Aldi, as they appear to be our only hope that 'ethical' Co-Op won't take over the whole town.

Why not invite Cllr Heenan to join your fight against ruthless developers?

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Do any of the forum members who say "don't oppose Aldi" actually live up in the Baswich/Weeping Cross/Wildwood area?

I ask because I'm wondering if the traffic problems which will no doubt ensue will actually cause you any problems.

If it gets built it will cause more traffic issues on Queensville. The entrance is supposed to be where the current "in" entrance to the petrol station is and the existing central reservation will be kept in place. This will allow for only 2 or 3 cars to be waiting to turn right (heading out of town) into the Aldi development and then the rest will end up blocking the A34 and thus causing even more chaos on the road on the way out of town.

It's bad enough now when cars want to turn right into the petrol station as it usually causes a queue. Cars trying to turn out of the petrol station to head out of town have very little chance of doing so. Most I see turn left and come back after using the island.

I'm not saying we don't need Aldi, I just wonder if that site is actually the best place for it.

Can't see that happening to be honest. Co-op are kicking everyone else out of the building from what I've read on here.

I drive along the affected stretch of road many times a day and I still think it's a good idea to have Aldi, though I agree with G that siting it on the current Co-Op site on Wildwood and giving the Co-Op a taste of their own medicine would be the ideal solution.

I live in Baswich, but I do agree, there is going to be big issues with the traffic, the Old Police site would be ideal. We have too many Co-ops in the area, they need some competition

I understood that the takeover of the Kwiksave site was conditional upon at least one of the other nearby Co-op outlets closing - but, this does not seem to have happened.

That site would be ideal for Aldi, now the co-op have bought the old Lynton Tavern

He's busy, washing his apron that night, I believe.

As cllr for the adjacent ward, which will obviously be affected by what goes on in Baswich, he really should be there. By having such vested interests, he can't be representing the people who voted for him (and pay for the privilege).

He is a Cllr for the adjacent ward, but as part of that ward is part of Baswich, he should attend these meetings
