Simple, the council doesn't care about roads and car users any more. They think our wonderful British weather means people can cycle everywhere.

In reality we seem to create the opposite of this whole "15 minute city" thing. Houses are thrown up everywhere and no additional shops, bus routes, GP surgeries, schools etc are created. So the new residents of these estates often need a car more than anyone else.

The planning department should rename itself to the "Urban Sprawl Approval Department" but there ain't any planning involved (well, beyond hooking these homes up to the grid, water, sewers etc)
Yet cycling infrastructure spend is a miniscule amount however you look at it and cycling infrastructure is basically absent for huge swathes of this Tory hell hole that we live in. I don't know how many millions was spent on a new road between foregate Street and the newport Road, the levelling up money got allocated to literally levelling up some tarmac and you think this government / council doesn't care about car drivers and roads? You must be joking? Cars are the only form of transport this government care about despite there being only negative consequences on us all. Just look at the deaths for accidents, air pollution, along with the tax avoidance of the oil companies.

The weather has nothing to do with it. The Netherlands has a very successful cycling and public transport system and similar weather to ourselves as have the Danes. The only thing preventing proper transport provision is the power of the motoring industry with all its vested interests and selfishness of car drivers.

Totally agree on the urban sprawl, its all poorly thought out and poorly built. All these new estates and not a cycle path to be seen, but yeah the council only care about cyclists 🤷‍♀️

The Council have won a grant for cycling provision along the A34, Weeping Cross into Town.

Enjoying a drop of red.

Yes but how much of that grant will be wasted on consultants? Probably a very substantial amount, leaving just enough to paint a couple of white lines for shared pavements, making things even worse than they are now. Think Tixall Road but crapper.

Besides there's already a perfect decent cycle route from the south end of town into the town centre, and it's a damn sight healthier to use than travelling down the A34 breathing in traffic fumes.

Brilliant. What would have happened to cycling provision had they not got the grant? I'm assuming zilch? Until safe segregated cycle paths are the norm it's all just a bit box ticky.

I don’t think that’s possible on the Lichfield road.

The government /council don’t give a shit about anyone else, motorists or cyclists. The main reason the WAR was built was to open up all that land for housing (council tax). Unfortunately they got it the wrong way round with the EDR.

Proposed Development off Cornwall Dr.

Highways Object to this proposal as it falls on the Protected Route B of the EDR. (Blue Route)

The EDR was proposed many years ago, but Highway dropped the plans, it seem they have Protected only the Blue section, the final part to the Red section will be completed by the developers Redrow. The Green and Pink sections were dropped by SCC some time ago

I love the objections from people on the Saxonfields estate. The irony of objecting whilst living on relatively new development. If the EDR wasn’t to be built, this is prime development land. It’s basically scrub now anyway.

Not ready for another four months for any mention of Christmas.
Shops have had "back to school" displays for a few days now, I've seen Halloween displays in several shops, one charity shop has had a display of Christmas decorations for some time now and a number of pubs are beginning to advertise their Christmas meals.

That makes me thankful that I very rarely use shops.
Many pubs I use don't do meals, Christmas or otherwise.
